What age should a baby be sleeping through the night??

my friends babies are all sleeing through the night. Yet my 6mo DS will only do it once in a blue moon. It seems to be only when he has stayed the night at someones. When I get him back he goes through the night for about 4 days after! after that he goes back to his old ways! I know he is capable of going all through- so what am I doing wrong??

Is there an age where they should be big enough to go through?

I too was all smug when my ds started sleeping 7 til 7 at only 7 weeks of age - I was amazed !My other 2 started sleeping through once properly on solids, and then better when in their own rooms, at 8 and 9 months.ds is 6 mo and most nights wakes every 2 hours for small bf, which is way more than he did as a newborn ! However, he is definitely teething, so I don't think there is much I can do ...... just hope it ends soooooon...........

My son is 3 and a half and he still wakes up in the night. The longest he has ever managed to sleep thru is 9 nights on the trot.

I don't think there is an age when they should sleep through. It depends entirely on the individual baby.
