My dd slept through the night at 10 weeks and did so for the next 8 weeks. We then went on holiday and she was in our room and would wake up and snuffle (not cry) and I started bfing her again in the night so she would go back to sleep.

She is now 23 weeks and I have gone back to work and so she is having a bottle (rather reluctantly!) for her daytime feeds and I"m feeding her at 7am and 7pm. The trouble is she is now waking twice a night at 1am and 5am for feeds. I don't mind the 5am feed, but the 1am feed is killing me. I know she can get through the night as she's done it before, and I guess she's readjusting to feeding at night time as i'm there (and nicer than a bottle !). Any ideas as to how to drop this 1am feed as I can't keep my eyes open at work !

Could she be going through a growth spurt??

vivat · 25/10/2004 14:20

could be, but this has gone on for 5/6 weeks so I think it's more of a habit forming

Could it also be because you've gone back to work? She might be trying to get as much breast / comfort as she can during the night?

Teething??? Have you tried Ashton and Parsons. Sometimes when dd get's really worked up at bedtime I'll give her one of those. It really does settle her nicely!!

crunchie · 25/10/2004 16:12

I would be very mean I'm afraid. Like you say it is probably a habit, rather then hunger. I would offer a bottle of milk (or milk/water) and get your partner to do it. For a few nights it might wake everyone up more, but it will work. If you want to go 'hardball' go straight to water, she'll soon learn and stop waking up.

thanks for your responses - Crunchie I think you're right. I'm going out for dinner with a friend tonight, and then I'm going to stay the night at her house (what bliss !) and leave dh in charge. Will report back after my 8 hours sleep tomorrow (i can't wait......)

What's ashton and parsons, woodpops? We're in teething hell!!!

TracyK · 25/10/2004 20:54

they're powder youpop in lols mouth and stops the teeth hurting. Get them in Boots - or Boots do their own I htink.

woodpops · 26/10/2004 10:07

Yep, they're homeopathic powders and they're the best.

Stayed at my friend's last night and had 8 hours sleep. It's sunny and I feel wonderful !!!

She woke at 12.30pm and wouldn't accept a bottle from dh and was pretty cross I wasn't there. HOwever she went back to sleep after grumbling for about an hour. THen woke at 5am and again didn't want a bottle from dh so was very pleased to see me at 7am (with bursting boobs !). So, we'll see what happens tonight when I'm there.

Is the Ashton and Parson the same at the Nelson's teetha powder, I think it's chamomilla?

thanks vivat x
