Frequent night wakings - how do you settle a 4 month-old?

DS (4 months) was, early on, a good night sleeper. Then went to waking every 3 hours, but for the past month or so has been waking every hour.

My theories on reasoning for this include:
hunger
teething
excema
habit

however, I have no solution yet.

Sometimes I'm sure he's hungry. Other times not. He won't take a dummy. Any other suggestions?

could be a growth spurt. does he settle back off if you feed him?

have you tried putting anbesol on his gums or any cream for his exzcema?

Is he on breast or bottle? If he is on the bottle and no longer needs burping try doing a roll over feed at nite just before you go to bed, my midwife told me to do it and my little miss never slept better...

Roll over feed is when you turn your baby to the side while they are sleeping and put the bottle in there mouth, they have a natural sucking reflex and feeding them without disturbing them lets them sleep a little longer and hopefully lets you get a bit of a better nites sleep too. Even if you do breast feed you can express a bit into a bottle and try it but never leave your baby alone while doing the roll over feed...

Hope this helps you like it did me!!!

I agree, I started feed my baby while he was still asleep and it kept him going through the night. I gradually brought the feed forward unitl by 7 months he could go from 6ish pm to 8ish am. I also had him in bed with me so I could pat him before he woke and without waking up myself. Lots of people don't like having a baby in bed with them so it may not be your cup of tea.

hmm, not sure any of this will work as he's already sleeping in bed with me and /i do feed him with littke disturbance in his sleep.

Also put loads of excema cream on before bed..

(totally bf by the way.. might tyry the bottle thing but not convinced that will solve it)

i would offer a dream feed before he wakes up then and see if that solves anything. also do try the anbesol for his teeth.

ALSO.. how do you move a baby from sleeping in your bed for over a month!.. to a cot?
He didn't seem to like it very much!

if he is used to sleeping in your bed it would be easiest to move him to a cot next to your bed with the side closest to your bed down so he can still sense you and it is like an extension to your bed.
