How do I adjust my one year old's sleep for when the clocks go back..

She wakes at 7.30 on the dot every day (I know, I'm pretty lucky...) so I assume it'll be 6.30 from next week (is that right? I'm not good at this)

Do I try putting her to bed later and later this week? She won't like it. Just wonder what others do.

I am trying to shift DS' whole routine back by 15 mins every couple of days so the shock's not so great... sure I will end up with a few 5am starts though

I dont bother with a gradual shift - on the day that the clocks change just change the whole day to the new time i.e. if breakfast is at 8am then make it at 8am on that day too (even though it is only really 7am!!) and then follow the rest of the day on from there with regards to naps, lunch, dinner, bedtime, etc. It only takes a day or two to adjust.

my mil suggests making the change after lunch. that way you don't feel that you are getting up early and all you do is push the afternoon and evening routines forward an hour. seems to work really well

I have never known anyone have a problem with the clocks changing as the kids still need the same hours of sleep. There is no need to adjust the little one's sleeping time. If she is thrown by the clocks changing, give her a few days and she'll be back to 'normal'.
Don't forget, she will still need the same amount of sleep, so if she goes to bed at 7.00 and sleeps til 7.30 - thats what she'll carry on doing. It only seems to be adults who have this problem and I'm sure its more to do with their mindset than reality.

LUnchtime is a great idea. Personally I am already getting up at 4.30 so the dear lord knows what next week is going to be like. Count your luckky blessings. 7.30 indeed!

For those with younger ones, what about encouraging an extra (even if only 10mins) nap in the late afternoon, so that they can push on through to a later bedtime without getting too tired. Tends to work for us on the odd occasions when DD is up at the crack of dawn.

DD goes to bed at 6pm. Hoping she wont now go at 5 and be up at 5!!!
