Too much sleep?

Is my baby sleeping too much? She's 8 weeks old and she'll sleep from around half 10/11pm to around half 7am ish am she'll stir in the night but isn't hungry, she'll sleep next to me and go back to sleep, she'll have a 6oz bottle and around 10am ish she will go back to sleep in her chair for 20mins or so and then wake but then she's crying because she's tried (refuses bottle) and then she'll go back to sleep only on my chest till around 3pm ish but then she's awake smiling and 'playing' from then to about 6 have about a 20/30 minute nap and then awake 'playing' till 10/11pm

Is this too much sleep? Because obviously I'm a little worried about her not having enough bottles but she's putting weight on still, any advise is welcome

That's a very very long time awake between 3 and 11 with only 20 mins sleep for a baby that age! I wouldnt be worrying about too much sleep.

@OhToBeASeahorse Ah Thankyou for your reply! Oh that's brilliant then, I was a little worried it may have been too much 🙈

No not at all. At this age (my 2nd baby is 9 weeks) I try to get them to sleep after an hour of being awake, I find they get overtired after any longer.

Having said that mine isnt sleeping as well as yours at night, so what do I know!!

ChlOeWh · 16/12/2020 15:37

@OhToBeASeahorse Ah I think she only sleeps like that at night because she's figuring out if she grumbles a bit she ends up in the bed with me 🙈 and she's goes straight back off.. made a rod for my own back there 😂

No you haven't- and ignore anyone that says you have!!! She's only tiny. She hadnt even worked out that you and her are separate yet. There is plenty of time for her to sleep by herself.

My MIL's favourite phrase is 'rod for your own back's. I said that by that logic we should begin weaning with a knife and fork and steak, given that's where they should end up we should start with it!

I wouldn't worry at all and enjoy the sleep!

My 2nd baby is currently 13 weeks old but has slept well from 5 weeks old. She will sleep 7pm-4 or 5am when I bring her into my bed and feed her back to sleep lying down. We then Co sleep until about 7am ish.
I told my neighbour this and she asked if I dreamfeed her for the first big stint of sleep. Absolutely not!
I will never EVER risk waking a sleeping baby 😂
they will wake if they are hungry.

As long as they are gaining weight and have lots of good nappies never worry 👍🏻

It's great that she's sleeping so well overnight, but it doesn't sound like enough daytime sleep to me - average sleep in 24hr period for a 10week old is between 14 and 17 hours, is she getting as much as that? And as PP said, only around 60-90mins of awake time to avoid overtiredness

SpaceOp · 16/12/2020 16:26

Definitely not too much sleep and at that age, the long awake periods in the afternoon might be too much. But if she's broadly happy, not crying a lot, sleeping well when she does sleep an gaining weight, I wouldn't be worried about it.

Thank you all for your replies ☺️ last night she slept from half 10/11 through till 7am this morning and in her next to me crib the whole way through, she didn't stir or grumble at all 🥰 although I did wake 2 or 3 times to make sure she was okay 🙈
