Which books on babies' sleep have you found realy helpful/a complete waste of money? Any views would be really appreciated

I'm having a bit of a nightmare with my 3 mnth old's sleep (lonely post here post if anyone would have time to look at it). So want to learn a bit about it and get some ideas to help to sort her out. There's so much on the market I've no idea where to start but I don't want to leave her to cry if I can help it.

Thanks for any experience.

Catz, read your other post but didn't have any advice so was just about to bump for you. 3-4 months is a typical time for sleep to go wrong so you're not alone (search this sleep thread for examples).

Can suggest two books which I've found really useful ...

No cry sleep solution by Elizabeth Pantley and Teach your child to sleep by the Millpond Sleep Clinic. Second book excellent to help you understand sleep and comes in easy to read chunks.

There's also a sleep section in Secrets ot the Baby Whisperer by Tracey Hogg. There's a baby whisperer web-site too which you might wish to google.

Be warned, different methods work for different people.

ps, you can buy all these books from amazon. However, ask around because you can probably borrow them from another parent/the library.

There was one I tried, which instead of concentrating on one particular sleep approach, looked at the pros and cons of all of them...I thought it was really good as it then allowed you to make your own mind up about what to do...will go see if I can find it, hold on

Yes, found it, it is called 'Sleep Solutions for your baby, toddler and preschooler' and is by Ann Douglas.

As I said, I really liked it because I didn't want to just follow one person's opinion without knowing whether that was the right thing to do, so this way I got a choice!

Baby Sleep Book by dr william sears and martha sears. Wicked book with lots of ideas. Also take a look on www.videojug.com and look up baby sleep.....I found it very helpfull and did what they recommended and my baby sleeps so much better....

any chance you can get a few from the library? I really do think this a personal thing - what works like a dream for one mother and baby may not work for another for so many reasons. we got a few from the library, found an approach that worked for us, and followed that one.

Many thanks for the replies. I popped down to the library to have a look but unfortunately they have about 12 book on parenting covering the whole range from naming your child to dealing with teens - all with VERY 70s pictures - so not much use!

I'll go and sit in Borders and have a look throug the ones you've suggested - there's so much to choose from it's great to have a starting point. Many thanks.

Oh and I looked at videojug thanks - I'd not heard of it before it's helpful
