4.5 month old wriggling wildly in his cot at night - help!

DS has turned into a frantic caterpillar at night, when I put him down he rolls around ha;pily in his cot, and is now waking himself at night as he magics his way around his cot. It's any guess at to where you'll find him and what position he'll be in. He sleeps in a grobag and I try and tuck him in with a sheet to try and keep him still......but not working. I found him this morning with his face up against the bars of his cot and his arms through them....any tips? My M-in-law says to safety pin him to the bed! I'm thinking not!

Is it upsetting him? If he wakes does he settle himself back to sleep, or do you have to do that?

If it's not bothering him, then I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it's bothering you, because he's in your room, then I would move him out! Actually, I don't think any of ours have lasted more than about 12 weeks in our room.

My friend's son is like this. She doesn't bother with a sheet. He just sleeps in his grobag. He's quite happy moving about. I guess he'll be an early walker.

He's in his own room - he wakes himself up, and most of the time he eventually resettles himself.....however there are specific night waking cries of "help me I'm stuck!" which is getting a tad tedious!

booreeve - my ds did this for a long time around this age. He also had very dry itchy skin on his tummy for a while. I got cream for the itchy skin and shortly after, the wriggling stopped so I presume he was writhing about trying to stop the itch.

Could it be something like this? Or perhaps he is just a wriggler!

think we just have a wriggler!

My 4.5 mth old does this. I use cot bumpers so she can't whack her head and leave her to it!

She settles better on her stomach fwiw, but obviously that's a "risk factor" for SIDS that I'm willing to live with. She can roll over both ways now anyway.
