Ds2 is not a good sleeper - understatement of the year - and after a year of appalling sleep deprivation we're crumbling. It's the classic breastfeeding-to-sleep-association problem.

I'm considering trying to get him onto dummies, in the hope that he will be able to find one in the cot when he wakes at night, rather than cry for my boob.

What do you think? Any hope? Insane? An even bigger rod for my back?

I tried this with my ds1. He totally refused to have a dummy, and wheN he kept it in his mouth for more than a milli-second, he would cry the minute it fell out!! Gave up in the end. He eventually started to sleep on his own without me rocking/feeding him to sleep, but I had to leave him crying for a few nights, I'm sorry to say. After that, we never looked back. He was about 10 months old. How old is your LO?

Just wondering whether your DS would be able to find it in the cot, if he's quite young. My DS (age 6) has enough trouble finding his bear if it's been gone a while and he's turned over a couple of times without noticing.

How old is he? You do need to wean him off the breastfeeding to sleep. I just doubt that dummies are your answer. Sorry.

Ds is 12m. I know I could leave him to cry - I did it with dd at 6m - but I don't want to. He has no separation anxiety, and I don't want to introduce it!

I've been using the NCSS and it's excellent. But we have never managed to get beyond two wakings instead of countless wakings. Something always happens to set us back again: teething/illness/a change in family routines.

About finding the dummy, I thought to pin or tie a couple to his sleeping bag, as well as have several loose in the cot.
