co sleeping but 15month old falling out of bed!

Ds is usually a good sleeper 7-7 though occasionally he wakes and won't go back to sleep. Last night I brought him into bed with me and we both had a very restless night. He was moving aroung so much then I heard an almighty thud as he fell out of my bed. I nearly had a heart attack and poor thing cried more because of my reaction rarther than hurting himself. I've tried lining up pillows but he still fell out.

Anybody have any advice!

Would a cot side help? You can get partial ones that would leave enough room for you to get in & out

bed rail

definitely bed rail

thats an idea, thanks. he usually stay in his own cot but since we've moved house he is on the top floor (we have three) its easier to bring him into our bed as I don't want to leave him to cry upstairs on his own.

He's up there now sleeping like a baby!!

Can you not put him between you and the wall? (put bed against the wall)

yogimum · 16/10/2007 13:54

I thought about putting the bed against the wall which I may do when dh goes back to work. He's been home since august but away this week on a course. When he's here its not a problem as we put him between us. (though its a bit squashed)

He's been unusally clingy lately and when I took him swimming this morning he clung to me for dear life. He used to love the water.

I would put the bed next to the wall and DS on one side - to me it feels safer than the child sleeping between two adults especially as men sometimes seem to sleep more soundly (and may be more likely to have had alcohol than a breastfeeding mother)...

DH is the lightest sleeper I have ever met, so its best he is next to ds and not me.

Ah, I am probably generalising unfairly from DP who wouldn't wake if he rolled onto a porcupine...

bluejelly · 16/10/2007 17:14

I'd put him next to the wall and get a bedrail too

yogimum · 16/10/2007 17:23

well i'm hoping he'll stay in his own cot tonight until I can get the bed moved. thanks again for all the advice.
