I know it sounds daft but she might need more sleep during the day.

My LO went through a period of this for about a month at that age and then settled down again. Most of the other Los on our post-natal club had the same thing - sorry!

My 5mo is exactly the same - 20lbs, already weaned. He nearly always wakes 4-5am, chats to himself for half an hour then goes back to sleep. I don't have any suggestions really I'm afraid, just wanted to add solidarity! He doesn't wake the rest of the house, only me, as he is in his own room with the door shut (monitor on though so I hear everything that goes on).

His daytime naps are approximately 9-10am, 1-2pm and 4-5pm.

what time does your baby wake in the morning super monkey and what times does he go to bed

He usually wakes about 7-7:30am (although this morning it was 6:15am ).

Evening routine is always the same - go for a bath about 7:15pm, give him milk, he's in bed 7:45pm-8pm. Sometimes he's asleep when I put him in, most of the time he's awake and chats to himself for about 10 minutes before falling asleep.

I then get him up for a dream feed about 10:30pm.

He gets about 11 hours sleep a night, then about 3 in the day. I used to put him in bed for 7pm rather than 8pm but he was waking about 6am. Also then, if he woke at 5am he wouldn't go back to sleep.

as a short term thing would your 5yo consider using earplugs?

spogs · 13/10/2007 08:21

thats interesting as mine goes down at 6.30-7 and only because she is ratty and tired so might try giving her nap times like you and see if it works

doubt it but anything is worth a try

I've been considering these for DH who needs his sleep
If you do try it, it's probably sensible to make sure he can still hear the smoke alarm when he has them in

SuperMonkey · 13/10/2007 08:50

He is definitely better if he has that late nap. I always try to make sure he has it, even if it means me feeding him to sleep then sitting with him in my arms for half an hour.

SuperMonkey · 13/10/2007 11:28

My basic principle spogs is that he needs to go to sleep about 2-2.5 hours after waking up (although I push it to 3 between his last nap and bedtime). Therefore if he wakes at 7am, he sleeps at around 9-10am, 12.30-1:30pm, 4-5pm. It's the routine he has set for himself! He woke an hour earlier today so his whole day is an hour earlier (he has just gone down for his second nap). It may mean I have to push him to 4 hours before bedtime and suffer a miserable grumpy child! Hopefully he will decide to sleep an hour longer in the day and will catch himself up.
