9-month-old won't sleep alone in cot

When we first moved our baby into her cot at 5 months, she slept through the night for around a month - then it all went wrong, and has remained so ever since!

She falls asleep on me (having breastfed her) last thing at night, but as soon as I move to put her in her cot, she wakes up and freaks out!

If she's in a deep enough sleep to be put in her cot in the first place, she'll wake a short time later and scream/cry the place down until we take her to bed with us. This happens each time we try to put her in her cot.

My partner needs to be able to sleep as he has to go to work, which is why we've been reluctant to let her 'cry it out' in her cot. We also live in a flat which has thin walls, and I'm conscious of keeping neighbours awake all night.

However, I'm also aware that we're making her dependent on sleeping with us.

Does anyone have any advice? Is there any option but to leave her in her cot to 'cry it out'?

Thanks in advance!

She's nine months old- it's normal. They go through a separation anxiety phase. Personally, I'd just bring her on with you until she settles again. With sleep, everything is a phase and you'll find she regresses several times all the way up to two years old (and even then, big changes, illness and teething can all make sleep go tits up again!)

This will hopefully be reassuring for you:

Now, I'm not a huge fan of Sarah Ockwell Smith but I think she's right on this one.
