Where does baby sleep during day when too big for moses basket

My baby is almost too big for his moses basket. He is also too big for carry cot on pram

Where can I put him to sleep during the day (downstairs). He has a cot in our bedroom but want him sleeping downstairs during the day.

A travel cot is probably your best option. What age is your baby?

Why do you want him sleeping downstairs during the day? An older baby naps best in a darkened quiet room

@Time2change2 advice is to have them sleeping in the same room as you until 6 months. I have this same issue - my baby is 4 months old and will either sleep on me or in her crib upstairs - nowhere else. So I end up being a human mattress!

Ah ok. I just put all of mine up for a nap around that age. All of mine were sleeping in their own rooms from 3-4 months at night. When you have twins that don’t fit in their go sleeper / Moses baskets anymore and your bedrooms are not big enough for two cots you don’t really have the luxury of sleeping in the same room! I would suggest a travel cot then but I don’t think many people have those in their downstairs every day so not sure what other people do?

I used a good quality lie flat umbrella stroller/buggie. It’s not for overnight sleeping but fine for naps. It was a Slivercross reflex.

when my son was too big for his moses basket he had a cot so slept in that, in his bedroom where I just assumed the cot was meant for that

We're nearly to this point, and we will try with a travel cot downstairs, even though it will take up a lot of space. However, my DS is very distractible now and easily disturbed so I'm not holding out much hope.

I just used the buggy, I had a mamas and papas armadillo and it laid flat.

As soon as mine outgrew the moses basket they were put for naps in their cots upstairs and i just checked them regularly

Mine used to nap in his buggy (goes flat) or in a bouncer type chair that also went pretty flat. Or just in his cot/on my bed and I’d just stick to upstairs

My son only ever slept upstairs, first in the crib then in the cot. I never saw the need to have him downstairs during the day. I had a video monitor and checked on him regularly. And I hate Moses baskets so would never ever have one.

Upstairs with baby monitor so I could check on her from around 4 months.

Travel cot downstairs or cot in their room. They never slept in my room anyway.

I had a bassinet for the sitting room. It was much bigger than the moses basket, but smaller than a full cot. If you had the space I would just go for a travel cot with a good mattress.

Might be unconventional but I put DS just on a folded blanket and mat on the floor with a blanket over his body when he was a baby. Probably wasn't as comfy as a cot but I made sure it wasn't draughty etc and he seemed to sleep ok there. He was never a big napper anyway though. It meant I could be in the same room or just popping in and out, plus he would then sleep like that anywhere if we were visiting friends etc, which there's a lot to be said for. I used to make sure we were at home a couple of times a week at least and he could have a really good kip then.

Having said all this, several years on, sleeping on the floor at cub camp never goes well, so I'm not sure how much good it did!

What Time2Change2 and others have said.
If you really want to be very near and don't trust a monitor, then you could set that up as time to do a job you can do on the landing outside their room - be that ironing or sewing or relaxing with a book or having a nap yourself

My friend had a travelcot which she doubled as a playpen by putting plastic balls in to make a ballpit when baby was old enough to not need downstairs nap and could go in bedroom

We just use the pram with main seat . He’s not 6 months yet but also outgrown carrycot.

I doubt he would even sleep in cot that easily anyway daytime so I don’t bother yet.

Does no one use bouncers or swings anymore? We have a BabyBjörn bouncer and a Mamaroo swing, all my DCs have napped in these up until 6/7 months old.

DD1 used to fall asleep on her baby gym sometimes and I'd cover her with a blanket over her tummy.

Both DD1 and DD2 were too long/mobile for a Moses basket by 10 weeks and regardless of the advice, went into a cot in the next room as our bedroom was too small to have a cot in with us. I would just put them down for a nap in their cot upstairs if we were in, with the monitor on.

Ds napped in his bouncy chair from birth, wouldn't settle in a carry cot or pram unless out & about. He used his chair until he was about 8 months & then I used a travel cot either in the living room or in our caravan awning in warm weather.
