My four month old DD was a great sleeper, til two days ago! She woke about 7.30 am had BF, came on school run, then down again for a couple of hours. Ah ... then two days ago she stopped sleeping during the day!! Not joking... she got up at 7.30 am and I finally got her to sleep at 11pm! HELP - apart from a wee doze on the boob, she was up all day - and today is following a similar pattern. Im ready for the hills !! Is this normal? Even when she did get to sleep at 11pm, she still woke twice for a feed and was still up again this morning. Im rambling I know...... I need space!!!! zzzzzzzzzzzz...........

growth spurt and needs more milk?
or developmental leap? has she learnt a new trick recently that she wants to practice all the time?

Is she awake and content all day, or awake and howling?

Alice, I hate to say it but 4 months is that classic growth spurt unsettled sleep time. Hopefully it'll settle down again soon. She could be starting to teeth too i guess

Hi, thanks for your interest, she is awake and content most of the day as long as she is in my arms, if I try to put her down, even to go to the loo.. howls! I think she is fighting sleep but I dont know why. Maybe growth spurt? she is feeding alot, I just dont get how someone so young can do with so little sleep!....?!? Roll on big naps in the morning!!

Mine was a bit like that, started sleeping longer during the day at about 7-8 months. It's really tough but you'll have forgotten this stage in a years time. Hang in there.

At around 3-4 months, they become much more aware of their surroundings - so where she was previously happy to drop off in your arms, now she is stimulated by all the interesting things to look at / hear in the living room (or wherever you are) Mine is just getting to this stage now, and will only nap well in her cot (in a quiet, darkish room) or in the pram (in a quiet corner). So you might find it easier to get her off to sleep by wheeling her round the garden (if you have one) in the pram for a bit and then parking her somewhere quiet. If you don't have a garden , I find wheeling the pram over the edge of the rug back and forth gives enough "jiggle" to get mine to nod off.
