9.5 mo DD is waking at 2.30am ish for no apparent reason BUT having checked her, she then gets herself in to more of a frenzy. Rechecking a few mins later finds her sitting up at the foot of her cot with her back to the end and seeing me / DH really sets her off again. I know that this is inevitable at some stage and so I haven't put her back down (as she can easily do it in the day time etc). I can hear her screaming in to the sheet / soft toys. All goes quiet by an hour and a half later and she's asleep. Last night I found her face down with bum in the air. She loathes being on her front but she was sleeping and I didn't move her. This morning I found her sitting up again so I presume she wasn't feeling trapped or stuck in the night.

Am I right to just leave her to cry and sort herself out position wise ?

if she's mobile enough not to get stuck in a dangerous position, yep.

My daughter slept with her face into the mattress, bum in the air and ankles crossed from six months old until she was three - it looked really odd but was obviously comfortable.

As long as she can move easily enough, she's fine.

Sorry - are you asking if it's all right for her to sleep on her front or for her to cry of an hour and a half?

For and hour and a half, I mean

Thanks for your replies - seeker, I mean to cry I suppose - I keep checking her and I just seem to set her off in to a state of hysteria. I can't find anything obviously wrong and try to comfort her but that doesn't seem to work. She cries, then stoips and then a minute later is crying again and it's this pattern that carries on for so long.

Tonight actually, she woke half an hour after going to bed from coughing. I checked on her 3 times at 10 min intervals and the last time I found her sitting up. I laid her down again and held her body again to try to get her to calm down and this time it worked. The poor little thing. I wish I knew what she needs!

there is nothing wrong with the way she is lying, she is old enough to move out of the position.i think they like going in that position as thats how they were in the belly.have you checled that she isn't having teething probs though
