Help, 12 week old has regressed and is sleeping much less than they did

I'm so exhausted and feeling a bit fed up as my 12 week old was sleeping around 5/6 hours at night followed by more shorter chunks but now he is waking much more frequently (within 3 hours or so of bed and then every 90 mins-2 hours for the rest of the night) and I'm not sure why as I'm breastfeeding on demand so I don't think it can be hunger. He seems windy when he wakes in the night and will fart but winding him doesn't seem to make much difference. I'm so tired. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks

I could have written this. I have had this too with mine for the last week (he’s 11 weeks). His sleep pattern sounds like it was exactly the same as your DS and then it suddenly changed to a max of 2hrs at a time. I also found it harder to put him down and the smallest noise work him up. He was also very farty! I always check if he is too hot/cold but seemed fine and he was bf as normal.

After 8 nights of it I did get 5.5hrs initially last night and then 2x 2hr sleeps. I hope I’m not cursing it by writing this but hopefully it was just a phase. I know there is a “leap” around this age (look at wonder weeks).

Sorry not much help. My next thing to try was white noise as it seems he had trouble staying asleep after a cycle had finished.

Thanks @Betsyboo87. I'm so pleased things are starting to improve for you...fingers crossed it stays that way. Had a little cry as feel so exhausted and have so much to do today but we're still in our PJ's, I have no energy and now feel guilty that I'm being a bad mum not doing fun things today to keep my baby entertained. Hopefully it will improve soon though. 🤞

It sounds like it could be the start of the 4 month sleep regression. My DS started sleeping similarly from 14 weeks.
Don’t feel bad that you’re not constantly “entertaining” your baby, 12 weeks is tiny! As long you’re with him he’ll be happy and entertained.

@rosyposy653 don’t feel guilty at all. Sleep deprivation is so so hard - remember it’s used as a method of torture! It’s absolutely ok to have lazy days and to cry. I’ve cried loads in the last week over lack of sleep. Put the jobs off until another day if you can and try to rest. I really hope it improves for you

Thanks @Betsyboo87 @alwaysmarmiteontoast. Another tough night but he is farting a lot and very gassy and stinky and that seems to be the problem and what is waking him up. We have winded him a lot and he had 2 dirty nappies yesterday so I'm not sure why this is happening but I wonder if it is some kind of digestive issue or something I am eating that is passing into the milk. I am tempted to phone my doctor for some advice in the morning as it definitely seems to have worsened and be a bit abnormal.

@rosyposy653 sorry to hear you’re still having problems. It seems Tuesday night was a one off for us as DS has slept less than 2hrs at a time for the last two nights. I gave him a bottle at 1am this morning and he drank it so quick that I’m wondering if it’s hunger. Annoyingly I only made up a small amount because I didn’t expect him to take it. I’m so relieved that it’s Friday as DH can help more at the weekend. I’m exhausted.

I hope you can get some helpful advice from the Dr. DS is also still very windy despite being burped.
