Layers on newborn

Hi mummas,

I have a question regarding dressing my 3 week old ds. It's 19 degrees outside now and 22 inside with 70 humidity. The weather app says 19 degrees feels like 13. What temperature do I dress ds for? I'm feeling very very cold and using the heavy winter duvet. Ds is wearing a vest and sleepsuit and I'd covered with a muslin blanket and a fleece baby blanket on his legs. I ordered sleeping bags but they will be delivered on Friday. When he sleeps on us he's fine but in his cot he curls and grunts a lot. Is he cold? How should I dress him?

(also my apologies for spamming mn lately I'm just so lost amidst all this!)

It actually updated to 14 degrees feels like 10 so even colder, but the room is still on 22 degrees

If your inside then dress them for the actual temperature. I would say he is in too many heavy layers and would replace the muslin and fleece with a cellular blanket.

Grunting noises are normal. It’s like trying to sleep in a farm yard with a new born snuffing next to you.

@lockdownseperation thank you :)

It's crazy how loud he is! It makes me so anxious I can't sleep tbh. When does it stop?

You can tell by touching them whether they're warm enough. Their chest and back of neck should be warm. Their hands should be cool but not freezing cold.

My 1 week old is sleeping in a long sleeve vest, sleep gown and a knitted blanket. She did have a thinner cotton jersey blanket but felt a bit cold in the night so I swapped it for the thicker one.

PS If you're not swaddling then the blanket should be up to their armpits, tucked around body and leaving arms free to move.

It goes somewhere around 3 months. It slowly reduces so you don’t notice it go.

@namechange30 he feels warm but not sweaty or hot.

Yup blanket always tucked and arms free :)
