14 month old - time for 1 nap?

My (almost) 15 month old has been taking 2 x 1hr naps. Over the last couple of weeks he's been really struggling with the afternoon nap and although at home he hasn't outright refused it when he's at nursery or grandparents (4 days a week) he has. He's just getting over an ear infection and he's had a few teeth come in recently so I'm sure that had an impact but it's getting to the point where he's only sleeping for 45 mins in the morning and that's it. By the time I put him to bed he's either so exhausted he conks right out or beyond tired that he's protesting until I cuddle him to sleep.
Could it be time to drop a nap? We can't extend his awake windows any longer as it's already tight trying to fit two naps in. His awake time is about 3.5 hours so I'm thinking of trying to keep him awake in the morning for another 15-30 mins and every few days keep extending that until we're around 12/12.30pm.
Any advice? I really want him to be getting more rest in the day as we'll quickly enter that dreaded overtired cycle that feels almost impossible to get out of.

My DD at that age was having one afternoon nap at nursery anywhere between 1 and 2hrs. Roughly 12.5-1.15/2.15. More usually it would be about 1hr 15 mins as an average. But at home with us or with their DGM she'd have 1 hour late morning and 1hr late afternoon.

If they're not having the PM nap I would move to one after lunch. Our DD started doing the same thing at home eventually - refusing the late PM nap and/or taking aaaages to fall asleep for it, and that's when we switched to one after lunch nap at home too but she was a fair bit older, probs around 20 months by then. But they're all different.

Hi @Laura1609 my little boy is 14 months and I've decided this week to transition to one nap as he's not going to bed for us at night. Some nights it's 9pm and he's still running around 😩 so yesterday I tried only a morning nap which led to over tiredness and still no sleep for me and DP. Today I put him down at 1.30 (he's still sleeping now) so I'm hoping he will go to bed around 7pm without a fuss. we did CC at 7 months but feel like I'm still doing it most nights as he never goes down easily. Sorry no advice per say but I'll let you know later how tonight goes 😂

@mammysharkdoo Oh best of luck to you! Mine has been a bit up and down on 1 nap so far, not helped by getting an ear infection so for a couple of days he has 2 naps and some others he’s woken early so has ended up with a 15 min cat nap in the late afternoon. These transitions are so hard, I’m really looking forward to when he’s more settled on one long nap and he’s adjusted to being awake for that much longer at a time.
