Hi, looking for a little bit of advice.

Baby girl has started to wake up the last few days between 2.30 and 4am and then can wake up after this once of twice once settled. She is waking up, stirring which I'm attending too because it's usually her nappy that needs changed. Once I change nappy and leave the room she just screams the house down. Wants out her cot etc. She has a cold, but because she did this pre cold a couple of times I don't think it's this reason. I go in and out to reassure her and just lie her down and pop her blanket over her but she will get up again. Up to 10 times. Confused and it's 10 times of just crying. I try to leave her to cry it out but she can get so upset and it breaks my heart. I try not to pick her up.

She has a decent amount of cows milk though the day (bf snack time tea and before bed), eats well. Don't think she is teething. She is 13 months old.

Any help or advice would be very much welcomed and what would be best to do for her in this situation

Thanks

Have you tried not changing her nappy? Maybe you going into her and getting her undressed and chilly means she is so fully awake she cant easily go back to sleep. Try just leaving her when she stirs and see what happens

Agree I wouldn't be changing the nappy unless her album is v sensitive/ it's obv a big poo.

I'd go in and shush her to sleep then two minutes longer then leave

Hi

I'm only changing her nappy if she is bothered by it which she is as this is why she's waking up. I thought it didn't seem too bad last night and as soon as I left the room she was screaming. It's like she's wanting up to start the day and my eyes are hanging out their sockets. Tried the ssshishing etc.

Wonder if it's maybe a bad dream but 3 nights on the trot is a bit of a coincidence?

I always just see things like this as a short phase

It'll end as quickly as it's started

I truly believe children so young don't have the ability to wake up on purpose etc

And therefore whenever it's happened, I just comfort/co sleep/feed etc. Whatever child needs to go back to sleep

We have just been through this with DD, fingers crossed we are out the other side. She would wake up around midnight howling, awake for maybe an hour or so.

My advice would be go in and comfort her if needed but I wouldn’t change a nappy during the night as she will be completely awake then. Unless it’s dirty of course.

It will pass, it lasted for 2/3 weeks and my god it was exhausting! Good luck x

It really is exhausting isn't it. It makes me laugh that the next morning she's so full of beans and I'm a walking MOMBIE.

I'll see how it goes. Someone told me to cut the wee milk before bed because it could be this but she's had milk before bed since day dot and I doubt this is causing her to be awake through the night.

Thanks for your replies. Mumsnet has really helped me as a first time mum.
