3 week old sleep schedule

I know they're all different so I'm not after anything set in stone here, but when did your babies start to go longer between night feeds when formula fed?

I think DS was about 6 weeks old when he started to go 4-5 hours between feeds at night. But every night was different. You probably won't see a real stretch until your baby is about 3 months.

Thank you, I've heard people say 6 weeks is a bit of a turning point so fingers crossed for my LO! Thanks for the reply x

No problem :) First few weeks are hard with exhaustion, especially when you're still recovering! But it will get easier :)

BabyB19 · 03/09/2020 16:46

I'm doing ok @Bobble011019 but only because I've let the housework etc go to pot and I'm not stressing about trying to get out too much and do chores but that can only go on for so long before you're living in a dump can't it haha x

Trust me you're doing the right thing! If you try and do too much now you'll look back at this time and will regret not just doing nothing!! Rest during the day as much as you can and let your partner do all the chores! You've just brought a baby into the world its the least they can do Grin x

If I had to give you any advice, start sleeping training from as early as possible and be consistent, it'll pay off massively in the long run!

BabyB19 · 03/09/2020 20:30

I need to look into sleep training I keep seeing people talk about it but don't really know anything about it @Bobble011019 x

Lots of different ways to do it. We used the stay and support approach which works best for our baby. I read the book 'the baby sleeps solution' by Lucy wolfe. Really good book if you follow consistently and stay persistent. Best of luck to you and your little one, enjoy this lovely newborn phase because before you know it'll be over 😍 x

My DD started to go 5-6 hours between feeds at around 6 weeks old and then amazingly at 9 weeks managed to go through the night, with last bottle at half 10 before bedtime and then would get up between 5.30 and 7am. This actually happened by accident one night when she woke up crying I assumed for a feed at around 2am so I popped her dummy in to settle her whilst I made a bottle and she went back off to sleep before it was even ready and didn’t wake up until 6am!

BabyB19 · 04/09/2020 16:19

I was thinking this myself @HolyMolyMeOhMy if it's actually my own fault for shoving a bottle in her mouth when she wakes up crying rather than trying to sooth her in other ways. My little one was only 5lbs 3 born though so I'm in no hurry to actively try and drop feeds and will go on her schedule until she's filled out a bit more x

We fed every 3 hours in the daytime - by that I mean if they hadnt cried for a feed we would lift and feed anyways but if they cried for a feed after 2.5h we would give it.

This meant a last feed at 7pm. We then moved to 4hourly - so we lifted and fed at 11pm (and did nappy etc) then did the same at 3am and then same at 7am.

Once dc got to about 6 weeks the 3am feed had gone but we carried on with the 11pm one (but didn't do the nappy so it was a very sleepy feed).

TeddyIsaHe · 04/09/2020 16:25

3 week olds should be fed first before trying any other methods of soothing.

Babies aren’t meant to sleep a lot, they need food and comfort and too deep sleep is a cause of SIDS.

I know it’s hard, but it’s so so so normal. You don’t need to worry about sleep training at 3 weeks old!

HolyMolyMeOhMy · 04/09/2020 16:47

Agree with above poster, at 3 weeks old she will still be needing a feed if waking in the night, but don’t worry, it will happen eventually and then night feeds will be nothing but a distant memory!
Also, my DD was quite a bit heavier than yours at 8lbs 2oz, so not sure if that plays a part in it. She did quite quickly progress from 2-3 hourly feeds every night to going 4-6 hourly though so you hopefully won’t be too far away from having longer stretches of sleep yourself in between feeds!

BabyB19 · 04/09/2020 21:53

Thanks for the input @HolyMolyMeOhMy @TeddyIsaHe as I say it's more curiosity and wishful thinking that we will fall into a nice pattern of longer sleeps before long, with her being so tiny I'm happy to feed her round the clock to get her fattened up a bit and certainly won't be trying to force less feeds before she's ready. 🤞🏼 she does it on her own sooner rather than later! 🤣🤷🏽‍♀️ x
