Newborn sleep query

So my newborn of 2.5 weeks sleeps great during the day but at nighttime tends to not settle as much and keeps making these grunting sounds almost as if he has trapped wind or something but I don't think he does as I wind well and when I cuddle him he falls asleep but if I put him down he's unsettled again

Have tried Moses basket and a crib but both are the same reaction.

@HP2020 my baby was like this at that age! I tried everything putting my top in her crib so it smelt like me, hot water bottle to warm bed yo first! She just wanted to sleep on me all the time! She also made the grunting noises you mention apparently it's really common and they grow out of it! Could also be abit of reflux we always have our crib tilted up slightly so she's not completely flat have you tried that?

I completely understand though because we literally have just been through this stage my baby is now 16 weeks and has been sleeping fine in her crib for months now! Things change so quickly and your baby will stop grunting and be okay in his crib soon 😊

At that age, my DD wasn't comfortable sleeping totally flat, she didn't have proper reflux but did used to grunt and occasionally bring up a bit of milk. Seconding trying to tilt the mattress a bit, or perhaps hold him upright for a little longer after feed before you put him down?

Hi thanks both. Yes we have tried tilting the cot so that's been done already

Pleased to hear from the first reply that the baby grew out of it. I'm happy to hold him all day it just is a pain it's during my sleep time but I'm going to bed early to compensate so leaving hubby in charge from 9pm to when he comes to bed around 1am so at least I get decent sleep then

@Emmaaa1990 did u try Infacol? I'm trying this tonight on a friends advice and doctor agrees it can do no harm to try. Dunno if it'll help at all but maybe. And u can use it from birth unlike gripe water where it's from 1 month.

@HP2020 yeah we tried Infacol, gripe water, colief in bottles too! The thing which we found most effective was dentinox colic drops! It literally smells like a gherkin but honestly brings wind up so well & used to help our little girl! I completely forgot about this little gem it was only that my partner just reminded me as I read him your post! Infacol didn't seem to do much for ya unfortunately :/ and gripe water was such a sticky mess! We got dentinox in Tesco's or online, I reckon some chemists do it too, you can use this from birth too :) - attached photo

@Emmaaa1990 well last night was more successful and indeed today. And we tried the Infacol and started using it from 7pm last night so he's had it before all feeds since then. And seems to sleep better. He is still grunting a bit but not as much. Also he's done 3 poos since starting it whereas before was only one a day so I'm guessing that it's helping with that end of things

I used gripe water with my older son and it works well but I know I can't use it until he's one month. But thanks for the suggestion of detonix so I will bear that in mind over the next few days if needed
