Baby pushing face against side of fabric crib

Hi,

Our little boy has just turned 10 weeks old and I've moved him out of the moses basket and into the Maxi Cosi Iora co-sleeper crib. Reason being he's just too long for the basket now and every time he moved I thought the wicker was going to give way! He's a sturdy baby, more length than chubbiness, and must weigh roughly a stone now. The thing is I haven't slept much as he's such a little wriggler. He was quite restricted in the moses basket so couldn't move about but in the crib he moves himself up to the side and pushes his face against the fabric. He seems content but I just can't rest at all so I keep moving him away from the side only for him to move back again. I've had to unswaddle his arms as I am terrified he won't be able to move from the side if he's swaddled completely. I have to sleep with a light on to keep checking him, he's fast asleep just now and I've been awake for 2 hours just watching him. I don't know what to do Sad

Awake here too! Not by choice just can't bloody sleep :( my newborn has always slept in our super king bed but decided tonight im going to be persistent with cot which is pushed up against our bed with the side down. She's sleeps nearly all the way through the night only waking once for a feed but this is only if I put her on her side to sleep! At first i was up all hours watching her now I feel confident she has good head control and is able to move her face if needed. And I roll a blanket up and wedge this on her stomach incase she does roll over. New born baby sleep is a nightmare... Don't know what adivce to give other than try to relax, if your baby looks content I would leave him be :) how old by the way?

Baby products are made to very particular specifications so probably that fabric is breathable and you don’t have to worry. (I tried to check the manual but it’s offline; perhaps you have a hard copy.) Otherwise perhaps someone else here has that crib and can tell you.

I wouldn’t put a baby on their side to sleep following SIDS advice; under six months you actually don’t want them sleeping too deeply as one theory is that that’s when they can ‘forget’ to sleep. That’s why the advice is for sleeping on the back only until they can roll.

Forget to breathe, sorry, not to sleep

My DD did this from birth when she was in her next to me crib. It’s terrifying! But, like you, nothing I did seemed to stop her, she is a determined little thing. So I just let her do it. The fabric is breathable so he won’t come to any harm if his crib is otherwise clear. DD has since grown out of that crib and now sleeps on her front in her cot - equally terrifying the first time it happens! 🤣
