Is it time to drop the nap?

DD is almost 3 and still has a 1.5hr nap in the afternoon. I've always thought she still needed it because she was asleep within 5 mins of going down.

For the last month or so though she's been VERY grumpy when I've woken her up. Lots of cross thrashing etc - think Kevin the teenager.

Yesterday she didn't have a nap ... she stayed in the room for the full 90mins faffing but didn't actually sleep.

I was dreading bedtime but actually she was fine - I left the room at 7.45 and she was asleep by 8. Can't remember the last time that happened, it's normally 8.30-9ish!

So I guess my question is, is it time to drop the nap? I'm just trying to figure out how I'd get work done though as that's what nap time is for at the moment!!!

I would say so yes.

@loudev I was hoping I could still get away with a one hour nap maybe but don't think it'll happen!!

It's hard when they do transition from one nap to none, I have always found it hard and I've got 4 children so I know it's not easy when they drop it

It might be a good idea to introduce "quiet time" in place of the nap, to see you through the transition.

So in the same way that you (presumably) always aim to be home for naptime, likewise be at home for an hour after lunch every day. Set toddler up on the sofa with decent TV on for them for an hour, perhaps add a fleece blanket to make it relaxing. The idea is to remove the pressure or expectation to sleep, but to give an environment that would allow a powernap on the odd occassion it's absolutely needed.

@FATEdestiny thank you, that's a good idea!
