Bedsharing to cot transition

Hi all

So in a few weeks time we are moving house which means my almost 7 month old will have his own nursery and his own cot!
At the moment we bed share. I cuddle him until he is drowsy then place him down on his side and tap his bum and he nods off. He quite often rolls over onto his tummy to sleep. He isn't quite able to fall asleep on his own yet.

He gets fidgety during the night and usually can be settled by tapping him on his bum again.

I'm feeling a bit worried about the transition from bed to cot. Looking for some tips/advice to make this go smoothly!

I could be pleasantly surprised and my little one might take to his cot brilliantly but the anxious part of me doesn't think it'll go down well!

Anybody else had any similar experiences?

As long as you're prepared to get up and stand at the cot patting whenever baby wakes, you'll be fine.

If you feel like you might be too tired to get up and stand by the cot yo settle him every wake up, it might be a better idea to have the cot in your room at first. Then he gets used to sleeping separately to you first, but you're more on-hand to respond easily to settle him.

We had the cot at the end of the bed for 6 months. I started by putting my DD in for the first part of the night when she did her longest stretch of sleep, then brought her back in to bed when she needed feeding (every bloody hour). Eventually started stretching out the times between feeds and/or getting DH to settle. Then put her in her own room at 12 months-ish. Wasn't a problem and she did go longer stretches between feeds then and started sleeping through around 14 months, although that didn't last! Sad
