Grunting after feeding in the night

I have a little 8 week old boy and for weeks we've had to put up with him grunting, kicking his legs and being very disruptive during the night. It's caused lots of sleep deprivation for my partner and I. He only wakes for one feed through the night, usually about 3-5am. I sit with him for a good half an hour after feeding and put him down where he's flat out. You can guarantee though, half an hour later he will kick, squirm, grunt and be so loud! We've suspected reflux, so I started using carobel last night but it made no difference. We've tried infant Gaviscon, that made him worse and constipated. Please help, I have to bring him into bed to get a few extra hours everyday.

This is really normal, there's likely nothing wrong with him. Babies are just nosy sleepers. You might find it gets a bit better at 5 or 6 months.

Personally, and I'll get flamed for this, we'd had enough by about 3 months and all of ours went in their own rooms at that point.

Agreed with pp above. Ours grunted so loudly at 10 weeks I was only getting an hour's sleep before she woke me again for another feed. I was exhausted. She went in her own room at 10 weeks and was fine. We all slept alot better.

DS did this too! It’s just noisy sleeping :)

My son did this, never woke up when he did it but he was like a grunting monster all night 🤣. In the end I put him in his own room!

Our son did the same, it's trapped wind. Not much you can do, though we tried winding and massage, though it doesn't really work if they're sleeping I found. Then one day he just stopped doing it. He's 15w now and hasn't done it in about a month - it will pass. But I remember finding it really hard to sleep through! DH wasn't too bothered 😒

Are you swaddling him? This often helps calm and sooth a young baby.

A dummy will also help a noisy baby.

Our baby is 7 weeks today and also does this, I find it so hard to sleep through, it's exhausting! If you work it out let me know, but as above I find swaddling helps nut doesn't solve it completely. Glad to hear from the above that it will hopefully stop at some point.

My first baby was noisy like this and so I ended up putting his Moses at the foot of our bed rather than right next to me. Helped me sleep through it!
