Why do toddlers suddenly start waking at night?

DD is 2.5 the last couple of weeks she's woken once or twice in the night and called out wanting me to tuck her in, find her bear, just generally settle her and then she goes back to sleep very nicely. She used to just go right through. I don't like leaving her to yell because she then wakes herself up completely and reckons it's morning time but neither do I want to commit myself to broken nights forever. Anyone experience of this - does it just stop? can't think of a reason why it started in the first place....

has anyone suggested the colder nights?

ds (2.9) was waking, now we have him in a much warmer sleep suit (and his bag, and he.. touch wood.. has been sleeping ok again)

we are also trying to stop his daytime nap (not an easy thing to do).. as he was having too much daytime sleep... which interrupted his nights. IYSWIM.

I did suspect it might be the case for dd, but dh thought not as the temp in her room was always around 21.

hi yingers!!
temperature in ds room dips really low at 3am.. (as I can vouch)

Dd's room tends to be too hot rather than too cold. It never goes below 24 unless the weather's VERY cold. And we hardly ever have to put heating on here. One of the very very few bonuses of living in a large block of flats.

Welshmum, I don't think E's nighttime vomit was the same as H's as she had a mammoth nap this afternoon and woke up with a raging fever and has been shaking and burning up for the rest of the day and refusing to eat. I suspect a horrible flu virus a few people I know have had ...

Oh no prefernot - she's only just got over her previous illness, poor little mite. Please give her a kiss from dd. Take care of yourself too - I know how knackering it is when they're ill.
