Baby thrashing, waking herself up

Hi,
Looking for some advice. My LO has always been a good sleeper, and the past 3 weeks sleeping from 8 until 8! It was incredible, I kept joking that I was waiting for the bubble to burst, and it really has.

The past four nights she has been waking at around 2:30am and just started thrashing her arms and legs, waking herself up. I keep offering the dummy, and holding my hand on her tummy, which seems to settle her for about 10 mins then it all starts again. So frustrating! I don't want to start re introducing night feeds (she's exclusively breast fed) as she clearly doesn't need them, and don't want her to associate feeding with sleep.

It gets to about half 4, and the only thing that settles her is putting her in the bed next to me, which I'm not keen on doing and I don't want to make a habit of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably worth mentioning she's in a swaddle up sleeping bag too.

Also, she's 13 weeks old, sorry, sleep deprived and a little forgetful

Hi OP, are you sure she's not hungry? It's quite unusual for babies at the age not to need at least one feed in the night.

She may not have needed night feeds before but perhaps needs them now. This can be the way of things at around this age until solids are introduced. Sorry, not what you want to hear.

Yeah I agree shes so young and probably needs feeding don't forget they are constantly growing and energy needs change.

Not what you wanted to hear but you will get through the sleep deprivation

It would be very unusual for a baby that age not to need feeds overnight. Don't forget that these things aren't linear - when they're having a growth spurt, a developmental leap, or the weather is just a bit warmer, they're likely to need more feeds.

Also there's a sleep regression around 4 months so you're probably just best accepting that her sleeping through is a thing of the past.

My DS is a similar age to your baby OP and we've had the same.
He dropped his night feeds for a few weeks but now needs them again.

I remember when DD was a baby and she was the same, some weeks she'd sleep through and others she wouldn't.

It's all to do with growth and development. I always think that when they're needing more feeds it's because they're developing as they should be so, as frustrating as it is, it's actually a good thing.

Plus, waking during the night reduces the risk of SIDS according to my HV.
