Apologies if this is off topic but I'm looking for some advice. My little boy is 4 weeks old and naps well during the day but during the night he grunts, squirms and kicks for the majority. He seems in discomfort but is asleep and only wakes for feeds 2-3 times. He's really loud when he's doing this and we're struggling to sleep. He'll fall asleep on me after feeding but as soon as he's put down in his crib he starts, we've tried swaddling, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm feeling pretty exhausted, thanks.

Around 4 weeks my LO started ‘finding his voice’ and making all sorts of noises as he slept. They do grow out of it.
However the squirming and discomfort could be wind or silent reflux. How is he with his feeds and being placed on his back in general?

@ELW85 well I suspected reflux and we tried him on an anti-reflux formula but it didn't make much difference and he became constipated so we took him off it. When he does poo he really struggles with it, and sometimes he grunts and kicks before he passed wind. He's not a fan of being put on his back however, after his evening bath we put him in his crib, on his back, and he's wide awake and sends himself to sleep just fine. I'm at my wits end. I've just tried laying him down and he grunted and kicked to the point he started crying. He's now comforted lying on his front on my chest.

I know this doesn't solve your problem right now but it will just go away in a few weeks. That's why you don't find 'solutions' for this online really. You could try tilting his cot slightly at an angle (find advice on how to do this online) but other than that you'll just have to wait it out...

@Hodge85 if he’s not crying and arching his back at feeds, I wouldn’t necessarily think reflux.
My LO cried after every feed and you could hear him bringing the reflux back up.
The thicker formulas will have had an effect on him especially that young and it’ll take about 2 weeks for the formula change to fully work its way out of his system.
It sounds like wind and developmental.
Try some infacol to help with getting wind up, but honestly the noises and squirming DS used to do, I thought he was awake and being strangled. He was asleep and very noisy!
I know it’s not an immediate fix but he will grow out of it pretty soon.

@ELW85 @mightybuzz can I ask when yours grew out of it? It'd be nice to have an idea of roughly how long this week go in for Confused

If I remembered an exact point for ours I would tell you, but the mind goes fuzzy and you don't remember the exact times this stuff stops! I know mine definitely did it around 4 weeks, and that he definitely wasn't doing it anymore by 3 months... It honestly won't be for a long time, a few weeks at most! I really thought it was reflux and the like as well, but eventually it just stopped.

I kept notes as I was convinced his noises and sniffling etc wasn’t right 😂
Came on by 3 weeks and he grew out of it around 10 weeks. I know it’s tough but it usually is a result of their digestive tract, airways and voice developing.
