Sleep Routine in Jeooardy

Looking for advice and experience!
Our DS is 4 months on Saturday.
His bedtime/nap routine at the minute includes a swaddle (he’s not rolling yet), and a dummy and he just sends himself off to sleep but the past few nights he’s been really fighting and knocking the dummy out with his swaddled hands as he’s really trying to use his hands to self soothe.
Any one been through this and any tips to evolve the routine? Maybe how to get from dummy to hands?
I’m dreading not swaddling him as it’s been a key component in putting him down awake...so has the dummy!

The transition out of a swaddle is tricky, I'm not gonna lie.

Does the swaddle you use allow for it being loosened or having an arm out? It might be worth starting to swaddle less tightly, perhaps leaving one or both arms out of the swaddle. It might need you to hold baby's hand as they go to sleep, to keep it still, but it's just an interim.

Another thing is, if you use a flat sheet for swaddling, is to swaddle to get baby off to sleep and then undo the sheet from around him one he is asleep, so he gets used to feeling free.

I used a tightly tucking in sheet as a transition from swaddle to sleeping bag. So reduced baby's clothing and use a lower tog rated sleeping bag, but add a sheet over the top of baby ion the sleeping bag. And tuck that sheet in really tightly.

Ergopouch.

Tightness of a swaddle. One arm in/one arm out.

Thanks both! I’ve got the gro bags so will do an arm at a time.

So this is a nightmare; we’ve gone to both arms out and a baby that can put themselves to sleep to a baby that won’t go to sleep as they’re staring at their hands up in the air or when I pin them under a sheet to sleep, stir, rub their eyes as they’re tired which wakes them up and then they cry as they can’t go back to sleep because hands in air.
This is exhausting. Any ideas or experiences??
