Long term use of travel cot

DS is almost 5 months old and about to outgrow his Next2Me crib. We're in the middle of looking for a house where 3yr old DD1 will be moving into a "big girl bed" and giving DS her cotbed. However, we haven't got room in our current flat to have a new bed and the cotbed.
Would it harm DS to sleep in a travel cot in our room for potentially a few months until we buy a bigger place? I've got a proper matress for it so it wouldn't be uncomfortable.
Any reason why this wouldn't be ok?

The issue with this set-up is having to lower baby right to the bottom, rather than having adjustable mattress heights. It means a lot of bending down into the cot for settling.

No reason not to at all. Babies can and will sleep in cardboard boxes, empty drawers, all kinds of things. My eldest slept very well in a hand-me-down 1970s carrycot for several weeks at the start of his life...

Ds has slept in a travel cot since he outgrew his Moses basket. As long as it has a proper mattress, not just the silly little one they come with, there is no difference to being in a cot

My daughter slept in one for months from about 6 months. She used to bang herself off the wooden cot sides doing her acrobatics in her sleep. She slept so much better in the travel cot on holiday we bought a proper mattress for it and all haar better sleep from it

When our LO outgrew his co sleeper at 4 1/2 months we kept him in the travel cot for three months as he was too young to sleep in a different room (on a different floor of the house) and he was fine. We did add some blankets under his sheet though as it wasn’t the thickest mattress. He was happy in it then, and still is when we go away.

I used travel cots for both DD's as they outgrew their Moses baskets fairly quickly and there wasn't room for a proper cot in my room. Both were in it with no issues til 1 year

Also bare in mind a baby doesn't need a thick mattress like an adult does due to their body weight. There's no real need to pad out

For the baby it’s fine but I’d be worried about your back. I found a travel cot really difficult to lower a fat baby into.

Thanks all. That's a relief, I'll get the travel cot out then once the Next2Me is done with.
Hopefully it won't be for too long and we'll find a bigger place. Baby not too fat so hopefully my back will be ok! Grin
