Three year old crying

DS is very nearly three. He sleeps in own bed, goes up to bed at 8, kiss goodnight and I go downstairs. He sleeps through the night other than if he isn’t well.

But when he wakes in the morning, he cries getting louder and louder until someone goes through to get him. He won’t get up and play with toys or lie in bed quietly or anything. His speech is a little slow for his age I think so I’m not sure if it’s that. He’s so independent through the day, is totally not interested in me playing with him so i suppose I just imagined he would appreciate the quiet time in the morning to play uninterrupted. He’s starting nursery in September and I’m noticing all these things that I suppose I thought he would/wouldn’t by doing by the time he started ‘school’ - but I’m not sure if I’m overthinking it!

I think this is pretty normal tbh, he's happy to play by himself in the day because he knows you're around, he's had time with you already and feels secure etc.

When he wakes up in the morning, you're not there, he hasn't seen you, maybe he's hungry/wet nappy, maybe he woke up suddenly because there was a noise, maybe he had a weird dream - he wants you to come get him so he knows you're still arouns. Have you tried going in, giving him a cuddle and having a chat, and then leaving him to play for a bit?

I think that sounds normal. But have you tried a gro clock? This helps us enormously!

Oh that’s okay then. I couldn’t tell whether it was him being a bit of a whinge or whatever (which he very often is Grin)!

Once I’m in there he’s saying “breakfast ready” so I doubt he’d stay in there once he’s got food on the brain!

The nursery thing is throwing me big time. I suppose I had an image of a 3 year old nursery child and what they’re capable of but he still seems like a little toddler! He’s my first so this is new!
