sids and front sleeping

dd can roll over and now prefers to sleep on tummy. when we put her to bed we now have to lay her on her side if we lay her on her back she wakes straight up. i checked with my hv who said if she can roll herself not to worry. but ive seen lots of products advertised which keep toddlers and babies on their backs. it mentions in the product spec 'this keeps them safe from sids' im stressing now that maybe i should be puting dd on her back to sleep regardless and making sure she doesnt roll over.
if she does stay asleep on her back she rolls straight over once ive left the room.
her fav position is face down with legs tucked under and bum in the air.
dd is 19 weeks.

I read that in Sweden SIDS has been on the increase despite babies sleeping on their back! not sure if that piece of info helps.
If it was my baby I'd leave her on her tummy if she prefered to sleep that way.

My dd2 (now 22 months) was exactly the same - and still sleeps with her bum in the air (makes me smile to think of it!). As soon as she could roll, she went on her front in bed.

I used to put her down on her back, she'd roll on her front, then before I went to bed I'd put her on her back or side just to make myself feel better. Even put her in a growbag to see if that would stop her - it didn't. IMO, there's not really much you can do about it, (I worried over it too), but I think your hv is right.

Your HV is talking good sense .. once they can roll over, just let them.

As far as products for keeping them on their backs - I'm sure businesses will flog anything they can by preying on parents' natural anxiety and desire to do the best for their child. Save your money for something more exciting!

There is no problem with this once they can roll over themselves. That's what I've read/heard anyway and once my older 2 could roll over, I let them sleep how they like and they are fine.

My Mum still harps on about how the advice was to put babies on their tummy when I was little and if I let her, she'd have done the same with mine...but I don't!!!

She hasnt learnt yet though to roll from tummy to back. Is that going to cause a problem?
