Legs caught in cot bars

DS recently had a couple of episodes where he got his leg stuck in the bars of his cot at night. He is 22 months. We tried moving him to bed but it has become quite clear he is not ready for this change yet. Is there anything we can do to make his cot safer or less likely to get his leg wedged? He is in a Gro bag already Currently he's in his travel cot which is fine for now but as it's quite light and he's quite hefty it feels like he could get to the point of toppling it, so I'd really like him back in his bigger cot bed. I don't want to do anything unsafe.

Do I just need to wait for his knees to get big enough so they won't fit through? (Do the gro company sell knee pads)

He's getting his leg stuck whilst in the sleeping bag ?!

I would of thought by 2 a bed would be fine without a bag. Mine needed a bed guard, but didn't get out and if they do you put them back.

I was going to suggest Grobag and/or travel cot. Could you secure the travel for somehow? Or just put a mattress on the floor?

You can get mesh cot bumpers that go around the bars but are breathable so no suffocation risk like with traditional bumpers.
