Sudden 30 minute naps

My baby will be 20 weeks this week.

Last week, he was taking 1-1.5 hour naps in his next to me crib. Morning and afternoon naps longest, late afternoon nap 40 minutes long.

However, since his jabs on Monday, his naps have suddenly become 30 minutes on the dot. He doesn't wake unhappy, his eyes ping open and he is as happy as anything. I used to be able to settle him back to sleep but he's not having any of it at the moment. He's wide awake as soon as 30 minutes hits.

He then stays awake for 2 hours before his next nap. I have tried to put him down earlier and reducing his awake time between naps thinking that he's going to become overtired but he will NOT settle before the 2 hours of awake time for love nor money.

He doesn't seem overtired to me, but his night time sleep is horrendous in that he wakes every 1.5-2 hours despite falling asleep in his next to me crib with some assistance from me.

What's happened to his daytime sleep all of a sudden? How can I get him back on track?

@S082018 is he going through a leap or maybe late regression?

Just keep consistently trying to resettle at the end of naps.

You are probably missing the sweet spot for nap resettling and now baby is getting overtired, he's waking more easily. The sweet spot is before baby actually wakes, when just moving from deep to light sleep. This might be shown by a very slight shift in position or grimace. If baby cries, it's too late 'cos they are awake.

Not unusual for jabs to make sleep go rubbish in the short term, just stay consistent. Important thing is to not get into an overtired cycle, because that becomes harder to get out of the longer it goes on.

Reduce awake times according to nap length and don't worry about having more naps per day, if needed. Try to keep good sleep hygiene so that baby goes to sleep where he stays asleep, rather than being rocked or held.
