Baby won't sleep

I a new mum to a beautiful baby girl and love her to bits but she is struggling to sleep over the last few days. She falls asleep on me or her dad but when we put her on cot/ Moses basket she wakes.. this can go on for hours. This happens in the day and the night.
We have been advised she may have colic do started Infacol last night ( currently doing 8am feed the morning after).
If anyone has any advice would be very very grateful. 😔😔

Hello there.
Sorry, I can't help you (child free).
But I've asked for your post to be moved to the specific Sleep board where you will get lots of advice and support I'm sure.

Hi @Sleepyparents, and a warm welcome to the site. Smile

We're going to move your thread over to our Sleep topic - hopefully some wise Mumsnetters will be along soon with some advice and support.

It is completely normal and I would avoid all the colic remedies, they are not proven to work. Look up safe co sleeping. It will improve trust me.

Sleepyparents · 18/06/2020 08:32

Thanks... wasn't sure how it worked but I'll search specifically for next time as I'm sure this will be first of many questions!!! 😁

When my DD was very little and wouldn't be put down I found a swaddle worked. When she was put down and then moved her arms hit the inside of the swaddle and she must have felt secure enough to stay asleep. I will add though that part of me thinks some of her bad sleeping habits began after I took the swaddle away when she could roll...might not be true, but something to think about. She slept like a dream in a swaddle though. I got a proper one with the velcro, although have to make sure her arms and hips are ok there's some good advice on a few different websites if you decide to

I second co-sleeping. Look out safe sleep 7 and join co-sleeping groups on facebook. There's lots of info and support as it's quite frowned upon.

But honestly, it's saved my mental health. My baby like yours would only sleep on me if I'd put her in her own bed she'd sleep for like 10 min or wake up instantly. She used to scream from 4-5pm late into the night when she'd exhaust herself. Have been told colic and medicated her like crazy at the advice of doctors. But now I come to think poor bubba was just exhausted.

If you don't like the idea of co sleeping try swaddling and white noise. Lots of different type of swaddles, I would say try a few. Again lots on ebay, facebook market so don't have to splash.

Good luck and hope you get some rest soon :)

Completely normal for them to want to sleep on you. I second the swaddle...we used the grosnugs which are like sleeping bags and help them transition to that.
During the day do you have a sling? I found wearing baby while they napped during the day meant I had two arms free at least to get up and do bits around the house or eat something! Game changer
