Baby keeps waking at 5!

Our 7 month old keeps waking at about 4.30/5am every morning. She settles back down for another 2 hours after I go in and put her dummy back in but how do we overcome this, is anyone else going through it?

Everything I read online is make sure they aren't sleeping too much in the day or make sure they're sleeping enough in the day it's all a bit of a contradiction. She's never been the best sleeper I'm just wondering if anyone else has this or if it's just her and we need to deal with it!

Her naps are always a bit all over the place in the day and she is still on 3 a day. Sometimes she naps well and sometimes terribly. Regardless of that she still always seems to wake at 5 and need resettling and then will sleep for another few hours! Hmm

I think it is pretty common. I have nearly 11 month old twins and they have both, my boy in particular, gone through periods of waking around 5am.

Some babies are just early risers. Sometimes it is because they are going through a developmental leap (check out the Wonder Weeks app if you haven’t already). Sometimes it can be because they have had too much day sleep or they are overtired come bedtime. At times I just couldn’t figure out why they were doing it.

At the moment they are waking between 5.30 and 6am and are up for the day.

Sorry I don’t have any helpful advice. At least you can resettle your little one. I have been able to resettle my two.

It's getting light very early because it's nearly Midsumner Day. Blackout blinds?

HoneyWheeler · 18/06/2020 07:19

Seconding blackout blinds - we have a blind and then blackout curtains over the top. It is nuts but even a tiny chunk of light can wake them up! I have also noticed that it is cool in the mornings at the moment, although stuffy when I put my LO to bed, so it could be a combination of feeling a bit cold and there being light in the room?

What time does your baby go to bed?

My son is 9 and has until about the last year always woken up at around 5. It's not that bad is it if she goes back off?

This. You don't know how lucky you are. Mine was still waking hourly all through the night at that age

Yummymummy2020 · 18/06/2020 07:25

Our little one is the exact same and also will only have a nap for ten minutes unless In our arms! She does like your baby resettle at about half five after a bottle for an hour , I have no advice as we haven’t figured it out either 😂

What I would suggest is enjoy the fact that she goes back to sleep, you don't know how long that will last!

Now to give a reason, she will be in very light sleep at this point. There could be something very minor happening at the same time each day that wakes her up (birds singing, boiler turning on etc).

IzJenk · 18/06/2020 08:31

No not that bad, I didn't say it was. Just wondering why! We do know how lucky we are we had a rotten start so we definitely do know how lucky we are

Thank you though everyone maybe it is the combination of light / cold in the mornings like you say or maybe this is just her. Smile

I was about to post saying mine too except for she doesn’t go back to sleep and still has a dream feed and a night feed 😫 if they go back to sleep for two hours just put the dummy in and that’s fine! So jealous 😂

My DD didn't start sleeping through until April this year and she's nearly 2. 5am isn't bad. She still wakes up at 4am or 5am at least once or twice a week. 7 months is still so young and their sleep patterns will change all the time. If she goes back down I think that's probably a not too horrific situation. It'll pass at some point. Apparently!
