Hi

A friend was saying to use a grobag/sleeping bag as it helped her child to stop waking in the night. Has anyone else had this luck???

My little boy is 9 months

Thanks

purplehaze if you do a search for old threads you'll find many about how great grobags are.

I can't imagine trying to keep my wiggly 6month daughter under the covers.

steppemum · 12/10/2004 16:12

they are great because the baby doesn't kick the covers off, but you can make one yourself (soft fleecy fabric is nice) or use an all in one fleece sleeping suit. They all do the same thing, just a matter of budget and preference really
(I wish someone had told me before I bothered buying any cot blankets!!!!)

Pidge · 12/10/2004 16:27

I'm a big fan - dd first had one at 3 months and is still in one age 2.2! She is a wriggly worm and would never have stayed under blankets and we live in a cold house. She even has daytime naps in her bag when we're at home.

We like them here too! Both been in them since birth more-or-less. I would reccommend them to anyone

snowmoon · 12/10/2004 18:11

DS is 11 weeks and has been using one only in the last week or so since he moved from his basket to this big cot. The sleeping bag stops him from kicking his blanket off and getting cold.

bundle · 12/10/2004 18:15

they are the greatest invention ever, right up there with bombay sapphire gin

toddlerbob · 12/10/2004 18:53

I have had a whole year of sleep since I discovered the grobag. Unfortunately bob has just discovered how to escape the bag - but he's 19 months now and old enough to understand "lie down and go to sleep".

I would recommend the travel one as it's not much more expensive and more versatile.

leglebegle · 12/10/2004 19:10

They are fantastic. I experimented with a few and the best I have ever seen were from a shop called Kent and Carey in London. They were padded and short sleeved. Really lovely. You can buy them online as well though. They were a cut above the rest in comfort.

My ds has been in grobags since he was about 8 weeks and at 18months is still in them. His bag is his comforter and won't even nap without being in it. If he is tired he gets his grobag and brings it to me or just lies on top of it on the floor and wraps his fingers in it (bless him). He has a summer one which he uses at the moment at nursery and two different togs for the winter months. I think they are brilliant and I have just ordered the larger size to keep him going. I have no idea how he would sleep without them and I'm not looking forward to the night when he goes to bed with a duvet (a little while yet thankfully). I do honestly believe that he sleeps better because he is kept warm throughout the night. I would always recommend them to anyone who asked me.

prettycandles · 13/10/2004 20:48

Sleeping bags are, IMO, the solution to almost every sleep problem. I discovered them a week after ds started sleeping through. He was still waking me by all his thrashing and grunting, and his sleep immediately became more peaceful in a bag (and I started sleeping through too! ). Dd went into one from one month old. It didn't stop her waking - she was a bit young for that . Ds only stopped using a sleeping bag when he moved from his cot to a bed at 3.5y. Dd will also stay in a sleeping bag as long as possible, because she can't climb out of the cot in one - she can if she isn't wearing a sleeping bag, and it's a long drop!

prettycandles · 13/10/2004 20:49

BTW Toddlerbob, have you tried putting the bag on backwards?

toddlerbob · 16/10/2004 09:08

I did - It was a travel grobag and so the little beauty just undid the back zip and stuck both his feet out and then tried to stand up and fell over and banged his head. Classic, especially as I caught the tail end of the performance.

Turns out he was ill and I think he was escaping because he had a temperature. Bit of Nurofen and he's staying in the bag. Oops bad mummy.

prettycandles · 17/10/2004 16:41

Oh dear, I shouldn't laugh - ROFL!

Hannah7 · 08/03/2008 18:35

I have used Grobags from 3months old and ds is 12months soon. Even goes in for daytime naps. Has a temperture at the moment, does anyone think they should maybe go in lower tog if have temperature? Thanks.

Seona1973 · 08/03/2008 19:42

I put ds in the same tog when ill but I did put less clothing on him than usual e.g. put just a sleepsuit instead of a vest plus sleepsuit. I didnt want to put too little on him as his room gets quite cold at night (14/15 degrees sometimes)

I usually get mine from bumpto3. They still have some on offer at the moment and you get a 10% mumsnet discount by using code MUMSW7

MegBusset · 08/03/2008 21:28

Hannah7, if your LO has a temperature then you should put them in less clothing and bedding until the temp has come down. You can also have a fan blowing in the room (not directly onto your LO though).

gemmummy · 08/03/2008 21:33

if you have a txmaxx near you, go and have a rake araound. i got some grobags for about 15 quid each, i think that's about a tenner off normal price. they're fantastic. i have got so much baby bedding unused, if anyone needs some. we've travelled a lot in the last few months and my ds (6months) has never had trouble settling at night. i think it's because he knows sleeping bag equals sleep time. well worth the money. i have a few 0-6 months ones if you need some?

naomi83 · 10/03/2008 19:18

grobags ae great! as well as all the pluses already mentioned they are great for sleep training. if your baby is 6months or more and they wake in the night you know they're not hot/cold, have kicked off the covers or are stuck in the cot. so you leave them, and viola! sleeping through the night in comfort within a few days!

BigHotMama · 10/03/2008 19:23

Grobags are amazing inventions, my ds has been in one since 3 months and never had any problems sleeping. Got my first 2 from Asda but have fallen in love with the quality & designs of the grobags from Bumpto3. The travel grobag is next on my list .

bexnboo · 11/03/2008 01:41

My little girl would not sleep at night... Even when she did drop off for a short while she kept thrashing around. It was at 6 months I decided to try her in a grobag... after 3 days she settled perfectly at night, and since then she's slept 12 hours every single night (she's almost 16 months!). I truely believe it's because she doesn't get too hot or too cold! Plus when its time for grobag, it's time for bed! I still get up 6+ times a night to check the temperature on her egg thermometer though!!!! I'm such a worrier!! Def get one!!! x
