16 month old screaming nap refusal HELP

Someone please help with my son's naps! 16 months, quite happily on one nap a day just before 1pm for weeks and weeks. Always taken in the pushchair (rock back forth inside for five minutes, job done, two hour sleep). I've never had any luck getting cot naps out of him, so I just stopped trying. But for the last week or so, we've had screaming nap refusals of 1 hour plus resulting in me feeding him to sleep on our bed and then he'll have maybe 40 mins tops.

Night sleep is fine. Still fed to sleep but sleeps 10-12 hours 4+ days a week, which as far as I'm concerned is fine. Nursery get him to sleep on a mat with tummy rubs - he's there twice a week.

We've tried bringing the nap earlier by 45 mins or so but no joy. Putting him in the cot and rubbing his back and tummy results in hysterical screaming, drowsy but awake = hysterical screaming. I really don't want to end up feeding him to sleep for naps as well.

What the hell am I supposed to do?

I would suggest he's over tired and needed to be asleep at least an hour earlier.

Could he be teething or ill?

He's not ill but poor boy has been teething almost constantly for weeks now (longer than this has been going on). I'm already doing his lunch at 11.30am, which seems fairly standard toddler lunch time, so maybe I'll try and get him through lunch quicker.

Realistically, it wouldn't make any difference to baby if temporarily lunchtime was as early as 10.30am, if he'll eat it. You could always do a substantial snack 3pm ish to see him through to dinner time.

It's not unusual for this age to want to be asleep by 11am. I'd say 12pm would be pushing it and 1pm very late.
