Getting used to the cot

My LO is 4.5 months and he’s always been a rubbish sleeper. To get him ready for his cot when we move him out about 6 months I was thinking to maybe try him in his cot for daytime naps? Is this a good idea or will it confuse him?

The cot is too big for our room so it’s not an option to move it in here.

Can you bring the cot downstairs?

Safe Sleep recommendations are that you stay in the safe room as baby as they sleep, for all sleeps. This includes daytime naps and early evening as well as night time. More info here:

If you have a cot downstairs, or if you are happy to sit in baby's nursery with him as he sleeps in the daytime, then yes it's definately worth doing.

I did this for naps when DS was around that age. He wasn’t able to get to sleep downstairs with me anymore by then, he needed a quiet dark space. When we put him in his own room at around 7 months there were no issues, he was perfectly used to the room and the cot presumably because he napped on there everyday.

No harm trying! We did this with our elder daughters around 4 months & never had any transition issues. Another thing we did was to move our co-sleeper away from our bed around 3 months. Still in the room for feeds but just away from the bed with the sides up. I mostly did it because she was such a noisy sleeper, she woke me up constantly. So I moved her further away!
