Naps for 12 week old

My 12 week old currently takes his daytime naps in his Moses basket in the living room or I take him for a walk in the sling.

Do I need to start putting him in his crib upstairs for daytime naps now? Should the room dark or light for naps? I thought I would mimic bedtime but I’ve read it messes with their circadian rhythm so daytime naps should be in day light. I’m a bit confused!

For context, we haven’t started a bedtime routine yet but will be doing that from next week. At the moment, he goes to sleep downstairs, I go to bed then my partner brings him up a few hours later.

My little lady is just 6m, she sleeps downstairs in her pushchair during the day. With her brother being home aswell it does make things easier and i can still potter around and keep an eye on her

My son is the same age, 12 weeks. At around 9 weeks we started putting him upstairs in his crib for midday sleep. Dark room and white noise. I was concerned too that it would confuse him, but I did a bit of reading into it and it seems to work ok. He has his longest sleeps there during the day. In the morning and late afternoon afternoon he sleep downstairs in the travel cot/ pram/car seat wherever, so he is getting some variation in his naps and not becoming too dependent on dark rooms etc for his naps.
We also started doing a bedtime routine and it’s been the best thing. Previously he would need to be on me or my partner on an evening to sleep, and woke every couple hours in the night. Now, with bedtime routine and more regular daytime naps, he sleeps much better (touches lots of wood frantically) through the night.

The safest place, until dc is at least 6 months old, is for them to sleep in the same room as you. I’d carry on with the Moses basket downstairs with you for now. You could always close the curtains if you think it’s too light. My ds is happy to nap in the light during the day and when it gets dark he sleeps for a much longer period, so we get some decent sleep too!

Nope carry on as you are.

In fact it's a bonus having a child who will sleep in different places. If we ever get back to a normal where you can go out to places, then you won't worry that your LO is unable to sleep.

Incidentally my LO sleep changed after her injections, then changed again once she was eating food properly.

Thanks for your replies. I’ll carry on as we are for a while but take him upstairs if I need to get something done up there, like cleaning the bathroom 😫

Having said that, he’ll be too big for the Moses basket and the bassinet of the pram before too long so I’ll need to revisit then.

That is great to hear @Lynsinhull. I hope it continues for you!
