9WO nap times 'little ones'

Hi everyone

Has anyone use the 'little ones' sleep rhythm programme? How did they find it?

Also, anyone else struggling with the long lunch time nap? I try and keep an awake time of max 2 hours but she always wakes after one sleep cycle. Maybe I should try shortening the wake time and see what happens?

Thanks in advance :-)

I think your baby is 9 weeks old? 2 hours seems like a very long time for a baby to be awake at that age. My DD is nearly 15 weeks and is sometimes awake for 2 hours just before bedtime, but that’s a maximum and she’s usually much more content with 1.5 hours awake. At 9 weeks I’m pretty sure she could do 1.25 hours awake at a maximum, more like 1 hour.

Also I think it’s just quite normal for babies to stop linking sleep cycles for naps at this age, and as they develop they start doing it again (around 5/6 months, so I’ve read...). You could try to resettle her between cycles if you want her to have a longer nap around lunchtime, I do this with my DD. It’s started working well now but wouldn’t have a few weeks back. When she was nine weeks I could get her to have a long nap in the pram at lunchtime, but that stopped working once she decided that looking at the world is more interesting than sleep. I am finding that everything changes so quickly once something starts working well the baby decides to change it up again!

I’ve seen the LO programme as someone sent it to me. For the age that my daughter is I know she wouldn’t be able to handle the suggested routine. She needs four naps a day still, and shorter awake times than they suggest. Maybe try and build a routine more around what your baby as an individual is able to manage?

I’m using the huckleberry app which tells you based on your baby’s age and when they woke up when the best time to get them down for a nap is, and it’s really helpful. She goes down for naps much quicker now and I avoid most meltdowns due to being overtired.

Hope this is helpful!

Hi, yes I’ve been using it since my son was around 8 weeks. I agree with you that the wake time is too long so we have generally done a shorter wake time (anything from 1 hour 30-1hr45). It does throw out the nap times a bit and has meant that we have to keep him awake before bedtime (His last nap often ends around 3.30 and he goes to bed around 6.30) or he has an extra short nap. Same with lunchtime nap- he did 2 hours in one go once but normally wakes after a sleep cycle and I have to soothe him back to sleep.
Things have improved since we got it though, the best thing for us was getting into a bedtime routine and regular naps. He’s sleeping much better at night so I’m happy with that!
