Could do with some advice folks. DS used to sleep for 12 hours straight. Then he started waking around 2 for a feed. Introduced a final feed at about 11pm and he went straight through again. Started waking again and I decided to start weaning him as all the other signs were there. This last week he has started waking again between 3 and 5 for a feed. Have upped the amount of solids, and made his dinner later, but this has only succeeded in him waking around 5 rather than 4. He's not cold, hasn't got wind or done a poo. He has 2 naps in the day of 1-2 hours each and goes down really well all the time. Could it be teeth maybe? Can't see or feel anything though. Why, just when you think you have the little blighters sussed, do they mess it all up again?!

How old is ds?

EvesMama · 10/10/2004 22:26

how old is ds? could be teeth, if still titchy, try a lullaby lightshow or similar before bed or when waking to try and sooth back over. if teeth and ds is old enough, try medised..marvellous.hth

He's almost 6 months. Is medised a pain relief thing for teeth?

yep, was recomended it by friend and can help little ones sleep whilst easing pain(can be used for cold too). can make then sleepy if given through day so i normally only use at night but worth its weight in gold.hth

Thanks Eve - will have a jaunt to Boots on the morrow. Still not sure it is teeth though - he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort. Would feel a bit men drugging him if he was just after a little smackrel!

Could he be going through a growth spurt?

stickynote · 10/10/2004 22:40

My dd2 aged 18 months has just finished a two week stint of waking at 5.00 am - who knows what triggers it, but IME if they've got a good sleeping pattern normally, they will usually get back into it after a blip like this. Do you automatically feed him if he wakes?

Poo2 · 10/10/2004 22:43

The boy hasn't stopped spurting since I had him, Juniper! He's off the charts. I have tried just picking him up for a cwtch, and then leaving him, and also just ignoring him, but he ends up going bananas. So have taken the easy route and just fed him. That way I can be back in bed in under 20 mins!

Quick translation for all you non-Welsh people. A cwtch is a hug.

did wonder? thought is was a typing mistake? saw another thread about doc recomending medised for nightly waker..not permanent, just before bed for couple of days incase some ache or pain disturbing sleep, but wouldnt like to advise strongly?

Poo2 · 10/10/2004 22:50

Definately worth a try. Am more worried about it becoming a habit than anything else. Perhaps the odd night with a dose would break it. Have to say though, I secretly like the feed - he's so lovely and nuzzly...

that must be lovely, it took me ages to bond with dd and didnt enjoy enything like that, so you enjoy it hun, dont dose him up, just try it maybe one or two night, after all, there is a prob, but he cant tell you what...you may help the little darling out. night

kbaby · 11/10/2004 11:21

poo2 i gave dd 19 wks medised last night as she has a blocked nose which was making her uncomfortable. she normally wakes 10pm,3+6 for a feed but last night she went 10-6am and then 6-9am. medised has a sedative which helps them, i think its probably baby equivelant of night nurse.

shame i cant give it every night
