12 week old sleeps all the time

Probably the opposite worry to most. Our three month old son is sleeping a lot and I'm worried that he isn't spending much time awake. He gets tired after an hour (sometimes an hour and a half) of being awake and if he doesn't get a nap he gets so overtired and cranky. It takes us a while to get him down for a nap (sometimes 45mins of cuddling and rocking as he can't seem to self settle) so I feel like he never actually has anytime awake to learn and play. It is incredibly hot in our house so he has only been sleeping in a nappy and thin sleep sack with a fan on. He is formula fed and is eating enough (roughly the recommended) so he should have enough energy so I don't understand. Should I be worried about how much he is sleeping?

No, he sounds completely normal! You might find that he settles for naps easier if you try and settle him before he’s tired and cranky though.

The huckleberry app is handy for telling you when baby is likely to be the right amount of tired (tired enough to sleep but before they get upset) to put down for a nap. I use it with my DD (14 weeks) and I’ve found it much easier to get her down for a nap as she’s not getting overtired. They have a premium service that you pay for but the free version tells you when baby needs a nap based on when they last woke.

Just to add, at the moment I feel like my whole life revolves around DD’s naps! I’d much rather she could be awake for longer. It’s tedious, especially if your DS’s naps are short, and you’re doing 5+ naps a day. I feel your pain!
