Lockdown Early Risers

My two under 5 year olds have always been early risers, but pre lockdown we'd just managed to get them into a routine where they woke around 6.30am. Over the lockdown period they've been taking longer to fall asleep and waking up earlier. They now wake at 5am everyday and it's killing me. Homeschooling is hard enough as it is, without feeling like you've been rudely awoken every morning. We've kept to their normal bedtime routine throughout lockdown. They do have blackout blinds (although because they don't like their doors closed it's never pitch black throughout night/morning), so it may partly be due to some summer light coming in. But it got me thinking, maybe they're just not as tired as they normally are because they're not doing as much? We do a bit of exercise everyday and they're doing bits of work, but maybe they just don't need that much sleep at the moment, because they're mostly at home. Anyone experiencing similar issues?

Oh yes! My Dd who is 5.5 has always been an uneasy sleeper. We've had a few 4am starts. Only a couple but it gives me The Fear.

Sets you up for such a bad day doesn't it (especially right now)? As babies they did not sleep that well, I would have thought I'd be able to cope a bit better due to all the practice I had a few years ago, but no! Maybe I should try and add in some extra exercise to try and wear them out more.

My Dd has never been a good sleeper. My younger ds thankfully seems better, touching lots of wood. At age 4 she'd wake up at 1:30am every night for 2hrs. She did that for a year. In the end we got professional help. Thankfully starting school seemed to help a lot, but I'm really worried about any changes to sleep now! She's so habit forming. My mum and sister have similar sleep habits to Dd so I'm sure it's genetic, I'm just looking forward to her being old enough to do whatever she needs to do without waking me up!!!
