Getting my one year old off the night feeds and sleeping!!

Hi, I’m just looking for some advice, my little girl turned one in March and she is still having two 4oz bottles through the night, this seems the only way she will actually sleep through the night, I’ve tried to swap for water and she just wasn’t having any of it, what is my best option to take to stop these feeds and getting her to sleep through? Thank you

How much is she eating/drinking during the day? How many nights did you try the water instead?

She has a morning bottle and night bottle still, she has her 3 meals a day plus snacks, she isn’t the biggest of eaters but I’m guessing that’s because she’s still having those bottles through the night, we tried about 3/4 nights as she just wasn’t sleeping and I work full time 😫

Following as I’m in same position although I BF. He has 1 feed before bed and 1 in the night. I just don’t know whether to go cold turkey with the night feed x

Do you have a partner who could offer her a drink when she wakes (so she doesn’t smell your boobs)? Now she’s 1 you could offer some cows milk?

ashleighdarcie2020 · 30/04/2020 08:57

She is bottle fed! I’ve tried with cows milk but she isn’t interested in it!

Sorry completely mis read- tbh I’d offer water and Nothing else- cold turkey, a few nights of hell and then a new habit

You've got to try go up carbs/protein during the day and be firm at night! 7 days to make a habit.....7 days to break a habit and all that!

How long is she sleeping for? If you are expecting a 12 hour night then that might be the problem.

ashleighdarcie2020 · 30/04/2020 11:09

She goes to bed around 8/8.30 and she’s awake some nights by 12 for a bottle then back awake again between 3/4 for a bottle and will sleep till 6am.

I would try to get rid of them one at a time. Maybe try giving the first bottle later, at about 1am? Then hopefully it will be nearly 6am by the time baby wakes again. Could try giving some supper before bed? Like some porridge or something? Is baby getting enough activity? I found keeping mine up for an extra half hour actually helped them sleep through. At that age they should be able to sleep for more than 3/4 hours at a time without any nutrition, I found when one of mine was night waking for a bottle it was actually me going to make a bottle on autopilot, and actually a nappy change, a cuddle, and being tucked back in did the same thing, sometimes with a few sips of water.
