Next to me cot - how long did you use it?

Hi all, my LO is 7 months but weighs in at a whopping 10.7kg. He sleeps in a sleepyhead Grande in his next to me with the side up. He naps the day in his cot in his nursery with his sleepyhead though which we've just started to take away for naps.

We've noticed that next to me had a 9kg weight limit!!! He is just starting to roll so we want rid of the sleepyhead but he can't sit or pull himself up yet.

We tried the next to me without the sleepyhead and he will won't stay settled in it! The mattress is so hard on the next to me TBH. Last night we tried him in his room in his cot and he kept waking up crying. I rocked to sleep and fed to sleep a few times but he wouldnt stay settled so was back in our room in his sleepyhead by 1am. I was tempted to buy a stronger mini cot but is it worth it for a month or two just to get that sleepyhead gone before we transition him to his room?

My question is, has anyone else used it past the 9kg weight limit??

Thanks in advance!! X

Hiya, I think we used ours past the 9kg limit for a bit, then moved to the rafferty mini cot from Asda (full size wouldn't fit in our bedroom and didn't want to put baby in with older DD) he was in that till we moved house when he was 15 months. It was quite cheap and worked well with and without the sleepyhead.

Have you considered using a travel cot? They aren’t that expensive (spesh if you go second hand!) and will do until you decide to move him/get a cot bed thing!

Would the sleepy head fit in his cot? It might just be a few nights of disruption whilst he gets used to his new cot?

DS is 8 months and definitely more than 9kg and we're still using the Next to Me. He's only in there where we're in the room too (not that that probably makes a difference). We keep meaning to transition him to his proper cot but then not bothering.

You can take one side off most full sized cot and butt it up to your bed. Then you get a full sized sidecar option.

A cheapy IKEA cot could do this, or bring your existing cot into your room.

Thank you everyone! I think I'll push forward with his room but keep the next to me up for those nights where I cave in the middle of the night. If I had my way he would bunk in with me and hubby would take the spare room hahaha. Deep down I know he needs to be in his room so I don't disrupt him at night and I have to face that battle at some time - and when better than a locked down maternity leave huh? You guys have given me the reassurance that the next to me won't suddenly drop to the floor under the pressure of his chubby legs and if it does I can pop the travel cot up in hard times! 😘 x
