Currently beastfeeding & bed sharing... how do I get him to sleep in his next to me bed?

My boy is now 5 months, since he was born I have been bed sharing with him and breastfeeding when he wants in the night. It started with the intention of moving him into the next to me bed (NTMB) after each feed, but never happened successfully, so I gave up trying.
I am recently thinking he needs to start going in his next to me bed. While he is still small it would be an easier transition? I hope so. I just don't know how to do it. He does still have a couple feeds in the night.

Has anyone done this before? Successful and non successful experiences welcome.

Thanks in advance

On and off successful here, depending on my levels of laziness.

You don’t “need” to move him if you don’t mind co-sleeping. But I liked having the space to move for part of the night at least. Does he start off sleeping in his own bed then move in with you during the night? That’s what I did normally. You can work on a good self-settling routine for bedtime then theoretically repeat that during the night (if you have the energy, I didn’t).

One thing that worked to move them back was moving the whole mattress next to me for feeding, then sliding it back to the bed when finished.

He has never slept in the next to me bed :|
I feed in our bed and he stays with me all night. I dont mind him sleeping with us. But I would like more sleeping freedom. Being able to move freely would be amazing lol. And I thought as he gets older it might get hard and harder to get him into sleeping alone. Might try the mattress thing though! Xx
