Floor bed/mattress on floor

Think we have come to the conclusion that it's the sides on the cot waking DS 18 months up.

Considering just giving him a double mattress on the floor to sleep on as more space and no fear of him falling out a big bed.

Sounds like a bonkers idea though.

Has anyone done this sort of thing successfully or have any advice regarding floor beds?

Had to put mine in a toddler bed at a similar age for the same reason. Worked well. Toddler beds aren’t very high and most come with a bed guard so they don’t fall out.

The only experience I’ve had of toddlers sleeping on a mattress on the floor was a disaster. When then getting a bed they would get out an lie on the floor because the couldn’t adapt to the height/space. These were children DM fostered, they had previously slept on mattresses on the floor as they had no beds.

second the toddler bed idea. my dc were climbers and the cot was too dangerous by just over a year old.
dc had them until they were about 8yo so they had the floor space in the room to play.

Just get a small toddler bed. They are quite low, so if he does fall, it won't be far. You can put a side bar on it. What you will need to do though is to make the bedroom secure. Anything he can get to removed. My grandson loves opening the drawers and wardrobe in his bedroom, and can climb up onto his changing table, so they would all have to be made safe. Plus he can open the bedroom door so all the other doors off the landing would need locking. Are you sure it's the cot sides waking him? He may just not need as much sleep?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Pretty sure it's the sides waking him up; he wakes upwards of 6 times a night and when I hear him stirring, when I look on the baby monitor I can see him thrashing about onto the side trying to roll over more.

I will have a look for a double toddler bedGrin
