17mo waking at 5am every morning - any suggestions

DS had got into a really good habit of going to bed at 8pm and waking 6.15-6.45, that was until about 2 weeks ago and he started waking at 5am!

Now i know it could be much worse but we cannot see why this is happening.

I sneaked in this morning to see if i could get him to go back to sleep, he got all cuddled up and seemed to be drifting off. However as soon as i moved he stood up and started crying again.

When he gets up at this hour we usually put him in between me and DH - put the tv on (cbeebies) and he'll happily watch it and we can have forty winks. So we know its not hunger or thirsty (takes water to bed).

He is at nursery every day so is a very active chappy, and has one nap in the day for about 1hr and a half - is this too much?

Any ideas would be so so gratefully received.

DD2 (13m) is just leaving a phase of 5-5.30 waking. So I sympathise. I think it was because she was teething...could your ds be teething?

He maybe, but usually we know about it when he's teething and it just seems so odd that its bang on 5am every morning.

If i find some its some bird whistling like a fool - there will be trouble!

My dd went through a 5am stage a month or two back. Luckliy I am a teacher and coincided with the summer break and thankfully through no effort on my behalf she is back to waking after 6am.

My DD also went through this phase at about that time. Lasted about a month IIRC. I think maybe it was teething. It was certainly knackering. Back to 6.45 ish now, thank goodness. No tips sorry! We tried putting her to bed later but it didn't make any difference.

OMG - well it got worse last night, he woke at 11.45 and wouldnt go back to sleep until 2.30. I guess he must be teething but he's really pushing the boundaries right now.

Urgh

Nip - I sympathise. Dd is now 20 mo and has had phases like this for the past 8 months or so - she'll wake at a ridiculously early hour for a few days and then go back to normal. Sometimes it's in the middle of the night, and again, always at the same time . Can't explain it - it just seems to be something she does every now and then. Hopfully it's just a phase for your lo!
