Self-soothing

Hi,

Just wondering has anyone got any tips on teaching their little ones to self-sooth?

My LG is 4.5 months old, and I've tried different things to help settling her since she was born, pick up and sooth, a little bit of gentle cry it out, hold her (when she was very little) I tried getting her used to her bed, so I tried not too take her out but instead pat her, and sssh her. Which did work but now she likes to feel my hand on her and also hold my fingers to sleep.

I want to start getting her ready for her own room, and but with her still wanting my hand it seems like a daunting task!

She also wakes up 3 times in the night, most of the time for food, she doesn't eat massive amounts at a time. Just starting eat 160mls in maybe 50% of her bottles. But then on the flip side she sometimes eat 70mls and won't touch any more.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated, as I'm getting pretty exhausted.

Also forgot to add, it's same for naps and she doesn't like to do them much either. Maybe 3 30 min naps a day.

Thank you Smile

She is still very little! It is perfectly normal for a baby to need to be held or fed at night well beyond 6 mo. ANd even those who will advocate sleep training would say don't do it before 6 mo (I won't be that person sorry). There is no such thing as a rod for your back or bad habits and self soothing is largely a myth, sorry.

4 mo sleep regression. It is not your baby that needs to change, it's your expectations

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

If self soothing was a myth, why would there be lots of research on it, and everyone I've spoken too has told me about their experiences, all being quite positive.

Also, I just want to say your end statement about changing my expectations, maybe you are right, but as a new mum, that is clearly asking for help as I'm emotionally and physically drained, basically saying I'm wrong with everything I've been doing and I shouldn't moan about this isn't very helpful.

As mums we should support each other,
