Our little one is a month old and will only sleep on our chest. She has a floppy larynx and with that comes bad reflux so I'm assuming that's why she doesn't like being on her back but iv tried raising her mattress. Co sleeping beside me. Swaddling. Music, white noise, a cot not basket. It seems like I'm running out of options help! Please!

Put her to sleep on her tummy . That's how both my children slept/sleep.

amazedmummy · 03/03/2020 01:19

Is she on any treatment for reflux? DS was 5 weeks when diagnosed with reflux.

MoominKitty · 03/03/2020 01:23

I could have written this, nearly 9 weeks in and he still only sleeps on my chest.

I've been trying to get him used to being on back with his gym and bouncer but it's slow going.

Hopefully they will grow out of it soon!

Same here. Our baby would sleep only on her tummy for a month around that age. I know, not very safe, but they need to get some sleep! Then eventually she learnt to sleep on her back around 2-3 months. x

Just let her sleep on your chest , or your husband's chest, for a while longer. It is quite natural, she will feel secure and sleep better than alone in her cot.

HaroldTheDad · 05/03/2020 00:38

My youngest daughter is a week old and will only fall asleep on my or partner's chest, we just read about co sleeping and went with it. It has been difficult so far and stressful especially as she is only a week old so we have miles and miles still to go. At that age you just need to do what the baby needs so if they need you then so be it.
As an aside, I've been through 3 pyjama tops this week thanks to milk reflux vom, it's a unique smell you cannot live with ive found, no matter how tired you are.

madcatladyforever · 05/03/2020 00:43

All our kids slept on their tummies back in the 80s. If that is the only way your baby will sleep do that. You can always get a cot alarm if you are worried.

Rhi11 · 05/03/2020 00:43

Had the same prob with my lo. Tilited the next to me cot and put him on his side to sleep . Plus reflux medicine helps .

MoominKitty · 11/03/2020 15:31

It's cheesy isn't it @HaroldTheDad I'm going through 6 muslins a day!

fishonabicycle · 11/03/2020 17:56

My son (now 19) would hardly sleep at all until I put him on his front at around 3 months. From then on he was every mother's dream! Both myself and my brother would only sleep on our fronts too.

Chloebr · 13/03/2020 01:57

My 9 week old has been sleeping on her back but she has been sick a couple of times and has been choking on it 😦
Put her on her front to sleep but now i cant sleep for worrying about her as I know its not recommended, however she is so settled on her front and not choking on her sick. Can anyone offer advice or reassurance I'm doing the right thing?!?

fishonabicycle · 13/03/2020 13:41

All I can say is it was fine for me and my son.

redwoodmazza · 13/03/2020 13:59

The longer you allow her to sleep on your chest, the more of a routine it will become for her. Try to break it now - on her tummy as PP suggested?

MellowMelly · 13/03/2020 14:24

Another person here who had to put my little one to sleep on her tummy (she’s 17 now). I know it goes against advice that we are given.
I bought a nice firm pillow and she slept on her front on that. I used to place her top half on the pillow as the elevation eased her reflux and her bottom half was partially on the cot mattress which allowed her to tuck her legs up to just under the edge of the pillow in the foetal position. She would actually sleep for a good couple of hours like that and it saved my sanity. Obviously the paranoia of ‘they must only sleep on their back’ made me check on her every 5 minutes as I only had a baby monitor that picked up on noise, but sometimes you just have to do what you need to do!

Chloebr · 16/03/2020 04:52

Mellowmelley the pillow is a good idea. We had another choking episode last night and it was utterly terrifying as there was no real warning and also completely silent🥺 luckily I was awake watching the ipad next to her and saw her legs and arms kicking like mad trying to get a breath!

So HELLO NEVER SLEEPING AGAIN
Called nhs 24 and we saw a doctor who said she examined great and nothing obviously wrong possibly just one of those things she will grow out of🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

MellowMelly · 16/03/2020 09:41

@Chloebr
Yes it is terrifying when it happens. My daughter I could hear rapidly swallowing with the reflux when it happened followed by gasping and a cough. Silent reflux was not something I knew about back then and it certainly wasn’t suggested to me. She did outgrow it but that pillow trick I used allowed her to get her much needed sleep as it definitely reduced the episodes.

Chloebr · 18/03/2020 10:15

@MellowMelly
Yes this is exactly what happens with our little one! Thank you for your advice. Much appreciated!
